You will champion and deliver user experience design across Rivian’s future-forward digitalofferings. You will focus on the customer mobile app, the vehicle interface, and how they worktogether seamlessly. This role centers on designing and delivering intuitive, thorough, and
delightful interactions. Other work areas include digital keys, remote mobile controls of the vehicle, and a mix of digital features that live across the vehicle and the mobile experience and must be tightly coordinated between the two user touchpoints. Working onsite at the Palo Alto Digital Studio offices, you will collaborate with design, engineering, product, and hardware teams to distill experience goals into concrete requirements. Candidates strongly preferred with significant experience in shipping complex mobile apps, ideally automotive companion apps or a similar controls app for an electronic product.
Responsibilities: delightful interactions. - Lead UX/UI design for phone key features, including pairing, integrations with
smartphone operating systems, vehicle access, connectivity management, and remote
controls. - Specialize in experiences or features that require a major mobile app component.
- Become an expert on the Rivian mobile app framework and design system, and act as a
resource for the larger team in translating cross-functional experiences into clean
reliable iOS/Android solutions. - Be aware of design constraints and considerations unique to iOS and Android and how
to design solutions for those scenarios. - Be the primary design expert for special smartphone functions like Rivian’s mobile live
activities or iOS widgets, etc. - This role is most weighted on the mobile app experience, but is not limited only to that
area of the business. You will be expected to contribute to feature work on the vehicle or
other areas as well. - Translate desired experiences into clear, actionable requirements.
- Collaborate deeply with product managers and engineering partners.
- Benchmark industry UI/UX and feature offerings as needed to ensure designs are
unique and pushing the envelope in the industry. - Present design concepts to leadership and cross-functional teams, advocating for a
user-centered approach.

- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Interaction Design, Human Factors, Product Design, or related
discipline. - 7+ years’ experience delivering end-to-end digital UX for an automotive company, digital
technology company or similar domains—preferably with demonstrated experience in
delivering and maturing a complex mobile app that can be used to interact with or control
an automobile or complex electronic product. - Strong portfolio highlighting UX solutions relating to those requirements.
- Deep proficiency with digital UX design and prototyping tools. (Figma, ProtoPie, or
similar) - Proven ability to collaborate with user research.
- Collaborative mindset—easily partners with product, engineering, and design teams
spanning hardware, embedded software, and cloud environments. - Solid foundation in mobile OS design considerations and frameworks.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities, able to articulate complex
hardware/software UX strategies. - Portfolio link required (with credentials for review).
