About Rivan

Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry. We aim to make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground.

We design and manufacture modular synthetic fuel plants consisting of a DAC system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor, whilst vertically integrating with off-grid DC solar and the European gas-grid. We’ve recently deployed the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant and are planning to 1000x this scale in the next 2 years.

We build our own sites from first principles. While most energy companies hand a permitted project to an EPC contractor, we run the entire process ourselves to ensure every deployment is faster and more cost-effective than the last.

As our Deployment Project Engineer, you'll work directly with the Head of Deployment to deliver Rivan’s first commercial project to export gas directly into the grid.

You’ll take the project from initial design to autonomous operation, coordinating engineers, contractors, and external stakeholders. Importantly, you will help define the deployment blueprint that we will use to deploy at scale. You will then step up to own larger, end-to-end deployments across the UK and Europe.

The role:

  • Take Rivan's projects from a permitted field to gas flowing into the grid, on programme and on budget.
  • Coordinate and influence the design and installation of key deployment packages. This covers system solar, site power, groundworks, gas pipelines, and the connections to Rivan's system. You set the requirements and work from first principles with our engineers and design consultants to deliver simple, scalable designs, at cost.
  • Manage the programme and the relationships that drive it, working with gas networks, landowners, highway and planning authorities, suppliers and our own engineering and commissioning teams.
  • Handle procurement and contracts, choosing contractors, agreeing prices and setting terms.
  • Track project budgets and schedule variations, proactively flagging and mitigating risks.
  • Coordinate pre-construction and construction in line with CDM and UK health and safety regulations, supported by a CDM specialist.
  • Build the deployment playbook so Rivan can deploy at scale. Implement improvements and automations to our design and construction process by working with our engineering team

Core skills:

  • Experience delivering a large, complex project end to end.
  • An engineering background, degree or equivalent.
  • You understand structural, electrical and process drawings and know which questions to ask where you're not the expert.
  • Reason from first principles. When an external party says "that's how it's always done", your instinct is to understand the key requirements and factors then work out if there's a better way.
  • Commercially sharp. You’ve caught inflated quotes, reasoned a price down on evidence and scoped work well avoid creep and ambiguity.
  • Aligning incentives to keep external parties to timeline and budget.
  • Comfortable running several workstreams at once and working between our London HQ and project sites.

Specifics:

  • £60-85k Salary depending on experience
  • Share options as part of the early team
  • In-person work between our project sites and London factory
  • Extensive deployment support, including £6,000 per year extra to support with work, relocation, and/or travel between our project sites and our HQ
  • Private health insurance
  • Unlimited time off

We encourage exceptional applicants from all backgrounds to apply for this role, even if they do not meet all the requirements listed.
