Acerca del puesto
Buscamos un(a) Asesor(a) Principal Adquisición de Energía para integrarse al equipo de Energía Renovable Global dentro de Abastecimiento Global (Global Procurement). Reportando al Gerente Senior de Energía Renovable Global, usted liderará la estructuración comercial, adquisición, negociación y ejecución de transacciones energéticas en toda América Latina, apoyando también otros mercados internacionales cuando sea necesario.
El portafolio incluye proyectos de energía solar, eólica, sistemas de almacenamiento de energía en baterías (BESS), microrredes híbridas y soluciones de suministro eléctrico desde la red. Usted desarrollará estrategias de adquisición de energía, liderará procesos competitivos de abastecimiento y estructurará contratos de compra de energía (Power Purchase Agreements - PPAs) y contratos virtuales de compra de energía (Virtual Power Purchase Agreements - VPPAs) tanto dentro como fuera del sitio.
Trabajando junto a actores internos y externos, aportará inteligencia de mercado, análisis comercial y liderazgo en negociaciones para identificar oportunidades que equilibren costo, riesgo, seguridad de suministro y objetivos de descarbonización.

Acerca del rol
- Desarrollar y ejecutar estrategias de adquisición de energía para el portafolio de Rio Tinto en América Latina, alineadas con las necesidades operativas y los objetivos energéticos de la organización.
- Liderar procesos de participación de mercado y abastecimiento competitivo, incluyendo solicitudes de propuesta (RFP) y solicitudes de cotización (RFQ), desde la definición de la estrategia hasta la evaluación y recomendación final.
- Evaluar oportunidades relacionadas con energía solar, eólica, almacenamiento en baterías, microrredes híbridas y suministro eléctrico para activos operativos y proyectos de desarrollo.
- Estructurar y negociar PPAs, VPPAs y otros acuerdos de suministro energético, además de respaldar los procesos internos de gobernanza y aprobación.
- Elaborar evaluaciones de mercado, análisis financieros, evaluaciones comerciales y casos de negocio que equilibren costos, riesgos, seguridad de suministro y objetivos de descarbonización.
- Construir relaciones sólidas con desarrolladores, empresas de servicios públicos, proveedores de energía y asesores externos, colaborando estrechamente con los equipos de Operaciones, Asuntos Legales, Secretaría Corporativa, Tesorería y Energía y Clima.
- Monitorear los mercados eléctricos, los cambios regulatorios y las soluciones emergentes de adquisición energética en América Latina, identificando oportunidades para mejorar costos energéticos, desempeño ambiental y flexibilidad del portafolio.
- Contribuir al desarrollo de marcos globales de adquisición de energía y apoyar oportunidades internacionales relacionadas con energía eléctrica, gas natural, diésel e infraestructura energética asociada cuando sea requerido.

Requisitos para el éxito

- Sólido conocimiento de PPAs, VPPAs, desarrollo de proyectos renovables y fundamentos de los mercados energéticos, incluyendo soluciones de energía solar, eólica y almacenamiento en baterías.
- Experiencia comprobada liderando negociaciones comerciales y trabajando con grupos complejos de partes interesadas internas y externas.
- Capacidad para desarrollar modelos financieros, realizar análisis comerciales y elaborar casos de negocio, así como para comunicar conceptos comerciales complejos de forma clara y efectiva.
- Título universitario en administración de empresas, comercio, economía, ingeniería, energía o disciplina relacionada, o experiencia equivalente relevante, junto con excelentes habilidades de comunicación oral y escrita en inglés y español.
- Comprensión de los mercados eléctricos, las estrategias de descarbonización y los enfoques corporativos de adquisición de energía renovable.
- Experiencia con gas natural, diésel, combustibles u otras materias primas energéticas, así como con la infraestructura asociada.

About The Role
We are looking for a Principal Adviser Power Procurement to help the Global Renewable Power team within Global Procurement deliver commercially competitive energy solutions for Rio Tinto’s operating and development assets. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Global Renewable Power, you will lead the commercial structuring, procurement, negotiation and execution of power transactions across Latin America, while supporting other international markets as required.
The portfolio includes solar, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), hybrid microgrids and grid supply solutions. You will develop power procurement strategies, lead competitive sourcing processes, and structure onsite and offsite Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPAs). Working with internal and external stakeholders, you will bring market intelligence, commercial analysis and negotiation leadership to opportunities that balance cost, risk, supply security and decarbonisation objectives.
This is an opportunity to influence high-value renewable energy transactions, contribute to global procurement practices and support broader energy initiatives, including natural gas, diesel and associated infrastructure, when required.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop and execute power procurement strategies across Rio Tinto’s Latin American portfolio in line with asset requirements and broader energy objectives.
- Lead market engagement and competitive sourcing processes, including requests for proposal and requests for quotation, from strategy through evaluation and recommendation.
- Evaluate solar, wind, battery energy storage, hybrid microgrid and grid supply opportunities for operating and development assets.
- Structure and negotiate onsite and offsite PPAs, VPPAs and other energy supply arrangements, and support internal governance and approval processes.
- Prepare market assessments, financial analyses, commercial evaluations and business cases that balance cost, risk, supply security and decarbonisation outcomes.
- Build productive relationships with developers, utilities, energy suppliers and advisors, while collaborating with Assets, Legal, Company Secretariat, Treasury, and Energy & Climate teams.
- Monitor power markets, regulatory developments and emerging procurement solutions across Latin America, identifying opportunities to improve energy cost, carbon outcomes and portfolio flexibility.
- Contribute to global power procurement frameworks and support international power opportunities, natural gas, diesel and associated energy infrastructure initiatives as required.

Required for Success

- Strong working knowledge of PPAs, VPPAs, renewable project development and energy-market fundamentals, including solar, wind and battery energy storage solutions.
- Demonstrated experience leading commercial negotiations and working with complex internal and external stakeholder groups.
- Financial modelling, commercial analysis and business case development capability, with the ability to communicate complex commercial concepts clearly.
- A qualification in business, commerce, economics, engineering, energy or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience, together with excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish.
- Understanding of electricity markets, decarbonisation pathways and corporate renewable energy procurement strategies.
- Experience with natural gas, diesel, fuels or broader energy commodities and associated infrastructure.
