Associate Attorney - Energy Efficiency, Electrification & Renewable Energy
Experience: 0–3 years
We are seeking a junior attorney to join our fast-paced energy and climate regulatory practice, with a focus on energy efficiency, building electrification, building decarbonization, and renewable energy policy. This role is ideal for a recent law graduate or early‑career attorney interested in policy‑driven legal work at the intersection of climate change, clean energy, and regulation. The associate will support matters before the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities and Department of Energy Resources, and work closely with utilities, state energy and environmental agencies as well as public stakeholder bodies, such as the Energy Efficiency Advisory Council. These efforts will include work on cutting‑edge issues such as energy efficiency programs, clean heat and electrification initiatives, renewable energy integration, and implementation of state climate mandates. The associate will also support other energy related filings and regulatory matters.
What You’ll Do
- Support regulatory proceedings related to energy efficiency programs, including program plans, budgets, and performance frameworks, as well as other energy related matters, such as solar policies and implementation
- Assist with electrification and clean heat policy, including fuel switching and building decarbonization initiatives
- Participate in stakeholder processes, technical working groups, and public meetings, including coordination across multiple clients and stakeholders
- Collaborate with economists and data analysts, engineers, and policy professionals on integrated legal and policy strategies
- Support regulatory and policy work involving renewable energy, including procurement, incentives, and grid integration
- Conduct legal and policy research on energy, climate, and administrative law issues
- Draft regulatory filings, comments, memoranda, and policy analyses
- Track legislative and regulatory developments affecting energy efficiency, electrification, renewables, and climate policy
What We’re Looking For
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Admission to the Massachusetts state bar (or eligibility to sit for an upcoming bar exam)
- Strong interest in energy efficiency, electrification, building decarbonization, and/or renewable energy and in supporting complex stakeholder processes
- Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast‑paced regulatory environment and support collaboration across a range of clients and stakeholders
- Relevant coursework, clinics, internships, or prior experience preferred but not required
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
