About The Role ROLE DESCRIPTION: The Director, Project Engineering, is a key position within Reworld and is responsible for engineering leadership for project engineering and coordination with Regional Engineering, PMO and Site Operations teams. Reporting to the Vice President, Design Engineering, this is a strategic leadership role, yet highly technical, and detail orientated that leads and lays the foundation for major projects, in conjunction with technical discipline/Design leads. This role also assesses feasibility and develops concepts and options for planning new capital projects and acts as liaison between discipline engineering functions and Project Management team for major projects. Scope The Project Engineering scope covers coordination of design and operations support for all aspects of the TTFs (Thermo- mechanical Treatment facilities, also known as Energy-from-Waste process at 30+ facilities within US and Canada. This includes cranes, steam generation boilers and their auxiliaries, feedwater pumps, deaerator systems, turbine generators, condensers, air pollution control equipment, ash handling and conveying equipment, metals recovery systems. Although this is a corporate engineering role, it involves extensive collaboration with sites, hence ~30% travel is required. This position collaborates strongly with its peers i.e., technical leadership from Electrical, Process & Controls, Mechanical, Regional Engineering groups, to ensure all discipline needs are met. Project Engineering Key responsibilities, deliverables, and expectations:- Technical oversight for the development of engineering activities across multiple major capital projects and proposals.
- Technical lead for major capex projects, including co-ordination of design deliverables (internal or with 3rd party Engineering
- Ensure proposals, and plans are in line with Company, governmental/regulatory agency Eng. principles, and standards.
- Support Project teams with establishing project Basis of Design (BOD), which includes preliminary calculations, plant sizing
- Evaluate Contractor and 3rd Party Engineering bid proposals, including examining specific tasks to be performed, materials to be used, and the qualifications of individuals performing the work. Identify inconsistencies with technical standards (in conjunction with Design Leads), make recommendations, and assist in the development of appropriate alternative solutions.
- Coordination for specifying, evaluating, and implementing critical plant systems including waste handling, combustion, air pollution control, turbine generator and condensing/cooling water systems, rotating equipment, and ash handling systems.
- Lead technical evaluation for project engineering improvements in design, throughput, and scale up. Ensure that a project engineering process exists and is followed for rigorous process evaluation and upgrading.
- Identify process improvements by using internal and external benchmarks. Assess and resolve root causes of problems and inconsistencies.
- Define and plan efficient and effective support to engineering projects and programs. Those processes will be both internal to Engineering as well as cross-functional throughout the Company.
- Support assessment of asset performance to ensure that design commitments and business objectives are met while still meeting all corporate risk targets. Analyze and document deviations to ensure lessons are captured and used to keep our design criteria current and are reflective of actual field performance.
- Help define and utilize common KPIs to measure project engineering performance and improve effectiveness.
- Drive a spirit of cross-functional collaboration throughout the Project Engineering and Planning team and foster a team approach to problem solving and communication with other Engineering, Procurement, PMO, Regional Engineering and Operations teams. Leadership:

- Professional Development: Provide guidance on the professional development of direct reports.
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Process Engineering or similar technical degree.
- An advanced degree is considered an advantage.
- 15+ years in Engineering Management with 10+ years in project engineering and 5+ years in plant or field experience.
- At least 5 years supervisory experience in a leadership role, as well as experience leading project engineering function.
- Preferred Prior experience: working in and around chemical plants, paper/pulp plants, power generating plants or large
- Fundamental familiarity with Civil/structural concepts for brownfield capital projects and troubleshooting structural issues
- Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data to identify trends is required.
- Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills - with experience communicating across all levels of the organization.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license in the US is preferred
- Six Sigma certification (Green Belt minimum) is highly desired
