Market Analyst - Energy & Carbon Markets (Graduate)
About RepuTex
RepuTex is a leading intelligence provider for Australia's energy transition and low-carbon commodities markets, delivering independent pricing, forecasts, market data and technology insights to over 300 customers.
We work across three service streams: Carbon Markets, Energy Transition, and Power & Renewables. At the centre of our service offering is our EnergyIQ platform, used by professionals across Australia's largest traders, industrial emitters, retailers, investors, project developers and financial institutions.
The opportunity
We are seeking a Graduate Market Analyst to join our Melbourne-based research and market data team. This role will support the production of price assessments, market data services, written market commentary and analytical datasets used across our EnergyIQ platform and subscriber research products.
The role is designed for a graduate with a finance, economics or related quantitative background who is interested in learning how commodity and energy markets and policy settings interact across Australia's low-carbon transition.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior analysts to collect, validate and manage market data; support daily price assessment processes; contribute to written reports; and assist with data tasks that support new and existing intelligence products.
This is a strong entry point for candidates seeking exposure to energy, carbon, renewable certificate and low-carbon commodity markets, with structured involvement across both analytical research and practical market data operations.
Key responsibilities
- Support RepuTex's price assessment processes across relevant low-carbon commodity and energy transition markets, including collection, validation and organisation of market data inputs.
- Lead all market data management, including maintaining trade logs, pricing information, construction of forward curves and engagement with active market participants
- Review market submissions, broker information, public datasets and internal data sources to help identify price trends, liquidity conditions and changes in market activity.
- Contribute to written market updates, subscriber reports and analytical commentary.
- Support data preparation and presentation via the EnergyIQ terminal as well as for client briefings and advisory services.
- Use AI tools to improve research, data cleaning, workflow automation, drafting and quality assurance processes, while applying appropriate judgement, verification and confidentiality controls.
- Assist with other data tasks required to support new and existing intelligence products, including database maintenance and modelling, public data extraction, tagging, classification and product testing.
- Work collaboratively with analysts with product owners across Carbon Markets, Energy Transition and Power & Renewables to ensure market data and research outputs are accurate, timely and internally consistent.
What we’re looking for
- We are seeking a graduate or early-career candidate with a strong analytical foundation and a clear interest in market intelligence, data and written research.
- A finance, economics, commerce, econometrics, data analytics or related quantitative background.
- Strong interest in markets, commodities, energy transition, climate policy, renewable energy or low-carbon investment.
- Comfort working with numbers, spreadsheets, datasets and written analysis.
- High attention to detail, with the ability to check, reconcile and question data before it is used in market-facing outputs.
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to explain market developments clearly and concisely.
- Proficiency with AI tools and a practical interest in applying them to research, data management, automation and productivity workflows.
- Working knowledge of Excel or Google Sheets. Exposure to Python, SQL, R, Power BI or similar tools will be highly regarded.
- Ability to manage recurring processes and deadlines in a research and data environment.
Applicants must have full and unrestricted working rights in Australia.
