Purpose of the Role

Repak is seeking an experienced Recycling Operations Manager to support the delivery of Ireland's packaging recycling and recovery objectives. The successful candidate will have significant experience within the waste management, recycling or resource recovery sector and will be responsible for managing relationships with Recovery Operators, conducting audits and site visits, administering recycling funding, and supporting compliance and operational performance.


Core Functions:


  • To manage relationships with designated Repak registered Recovery Operators and support continuous improvement across waste recovery and recycling operations.
  • To administer funding for verified recycling and recovery of packaging waste in accordance with Repak procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • To lead in the communication of Repak Events, Awards and Staff Updates and give quarterly presentations.
  • To positively contribute towards the achievement of Individual, Corporate and Departmental performance targets.


Responsibilities:


  • Apply industry knowledge of waste management, recycling and resource recovery operations to support informed decision-making, compliance, and operational excellence
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of waste market trends, recycling technologies, regulatory developments and industry best practice.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with waste management companies, recyclers, processors, brokers and other industry stakeholders.
  • To support and implement Repak’s Strategic Roadmap.
  • To manage assigned Repak Recovery Operator accounts.
  • To undertake Recovery and Recycling Operators site visits, audits and waste characterisation studies for designated operators.
  • To verify claims for subsidy made by Recovery Operators, incorporating cross referencing of recycling and recovery tonnage documentation to ensure it co-relates to the amount claimed.
  • To update and maintain the R and R Department databases, recycling facilities search engine, ROLC accounts, dashboards, etc.
  • Assist in the undertaking and conducting of assigned contract compliance audits as per standard operating procedures and best practice.
  • To oversee consultant operation at Waste Characterisation Studies (WCS)
  • To support the Finance Team with Forecasting & Budget processes
  • To attend Member site audits with the Membership Team
  • To support compliance audits and reporting on brokers and destinations, national & international
  • To partake in the assessment and administration of the Repak awards judging and awards ceremony.
  • To organise and contribute positively towards conferences, presentations and papers for working groups and present same as required.
  • To take relevant minutes of recovery and recycling team meetings as required.
  • To represent Repak and its policies in a professional manner.
  • To provide Repak Recycling Talks & Community Training from time to time
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as may be requested from time to time.


Skills, Experience & Qualifications


Essential



  • Experience working within the waste management, recycling, resource recovery, environmental services, or circular economy sector.
  • Strong understanding of waste collection, recovery, recycling and treatment operations.
  • Experience conducting site audits, compliance assessments, inspections, or operational reviews.
  • Excellent analytical and reporting skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholder relationships and operational accounts.
  • Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel extensively throughout Ireland.


Desirable


  • Knowledge of Irish and European waste legislation and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes.
  • Experience working with licensed waste facilities, material recovery facilities (MRFs), recyclers, brokers, exporters, or compliance schemes.
  • Experience in waste characterisation studies and environmental auditing.
  • Relevant qualification in Environmental Science, Waste Management, Engineering, Sustainability, or a related discipline.
