Design Engineer III - Commercial & Industrial Renewable Energy (Whittier)

Apply now

We're looking for a Design Engineer III to lead cutting-edge C&I renewable energy projects with a firm that's actually pushing the industry forward.

The Role: Technical Leadership, Not Desk Work

You won't just be designing systems—you'll own them. As the technical lead on complex projects, you'll drive solar PV, BESS, hybrid, and power distribution designs from concept to construction-ready packages. You'll coordinate across project management, estimating, procurement, construction, and field teams to make sure everything aligns perfectly.

Day-to-day, you'll:

  • Execute complex, full-scope C&I renewable energy designs that set the standard
  • Perform advanced engineering calculations: voltage drop, fault current, conductor sizing, load flow analysis
  • Create construction-ready deliverables: single-line diagrams, panel schedules, equipment layouts, cable schedules
  • Lead technical initiatives and develop junior engineers on your team
  • Conduct site audits, navigate utility requirements, and coordinate with AHJs
  • Own QA reviews and vendor submissions
  • Dig into commercial and technical documents to extract critical design requirements
  • Support field teams with rapid RFI responses and real-time installation coordination

Who We Need

Core Requirements:

  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (preferred)
  • 5–8+ years in electrical or renewable design, ideally C&I
  • Deep knowledge of NEC, CEC, IEEE, and local electrical codes
  • Proven track record producing complete engineering design packages
  • Ability to lead technical workstreams and mentor junior staff
  • Solid hands-on skills with AutoCAD, PVSyst, Helioscope, ETAP, or similar tools
  • Strong communication and project coordination abilities

Nice-to-Have:

  • Title-24 compliance and OSHPD/DSA approval experience
  • LEED certification
  • A track record of mentoring or leading technical teams

What You Get

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive salary: $110,000–$135,000/year (based on experience)
  • 15+ days PTO + 9 paid holidays
  • 401(k) with 100% match up to 6% + profit-sharing potential
  • 100% company-paid employee health & dental coverage; 75% dependent coverage
  • Life and AD&D insurance
  • Employee Assistance Plan
  • Optional short/long-term disability, vision, accident, and critical illness coverage

Why This Matters

You'll work with a team-oriented firm that's known for delivering innovative, technically sound electrical and renewable energy solutions. You're not just executing designs—you're raising the bar for what C&I renewable projects can be. You'll take on emerging leadership responsibilities, mentor engineers who care about the work, and tackle diverse, genuinely complex projects that matter.
