Who You Are
You are a high-performing Electrical Construction Manager who is a skilled and safety-conscious Electrician to join our growing team of renewable energy professionals in Illinois. In this role, you will be responsible for the inspection, commissioning, and maintenance of photovoltaic (PV) solar systems, as well as battery storage infrastructure. A Master Electrician license is strongly preferred. You will be expected to adhere to the National Electrical Code (NEC), Illinois state electrical codes, and all applicable local ordinances.
You are skilled at managing project sites and subcontractors by setting clear expectations, removing roadblocks, and holding teams accountable to safety, schedule, budget, and quality performance.
You are known for stepping into challenging construction situations and creating structure where it is needed. You do not wait for perfect direction or ideal circumstances but instead quickly identify what is broken, develop practical solutions, align internal and field leadership, and drive implementation through completion.
Key Responsibilities
Installation and Construction
- Review and ensure quality for the installation of wire, cable, terminations and related infrastructure.
- Understand commissioning and testing electrical installations.
- Mount and interconnect solar panels, inverters, combiners, disconnects, and monitoring equipment.
- Install battery energy storage systems (BESS) per design specifications.
- Run conduit, pull wire, and make all AC/DC electrical connections in compliance with NEC and Illinois State codes.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, clients, AHJs, etc., during construction.
- Experience with ground-mounted PV solar systems (residential, commercial, and utility-scale) preferred.
Inspection and Commissioning
- Perform pre-commissioning checks, system testing, and final inspections before system energization.
- Verify proper operation of inverters, monitoring systems, and utility interconnection equipment.
- Prepare as-built documentation and submit permit sign-off packages to local AHJs.
- Work directly with utility representatives during metering and interconnection inspections.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults in PV systems using meters and thermal imaging.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on panels, inverters, wiring, and battery systems.
- Document all activity accurately in work order management software.
Safety and Compliance
- Comply with OSHA 10/30 safety standards, company safety policies, and site-specific safety plans.
- Maintain awareness of arc flash hazards, fall protection requirements, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Attend and actively participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions.
- Ensure all work passes AHJ inspection on the first attempt through quality workmanship.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on commercial & industrial electrical experience, and ideally two years in solar PV installation.
- Prefer valid Illinois Electrician License.
- Demonstrated knowledge of NEC Article 690 (Solar PV Systems) and Article 705 (Interconnected Power Systems).
- Proficiency reading and interpreting electrical single-line diagrams, permit drawings, and site plans.
- OSHA 10 Construction certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Valid Illinois driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to operate company vehicles.
- Strong understanding of scheduling, project controls, contracts, cost forecasting, and labor productivity.
- Experience managing large portfolios of simultaneous projects.
- Willingness to travel regularly to project sites.
Preferred
- Illinois Master Electrician License (strongly preferred)
- NABCEP PV Installation Professional (PVIP) or Associate certification
- Experience with battery storage systems
- Experience with utility, commercial, and industrial solar projects (100 kW+)
- Familiarity with Illinois utility interconnection requirements (ComEd, Ameren)
- OSHA 30 Construction certification
- First Aid / CPR certification
