RENEW Energy Partners, LLC is seeking an experienced energy systems Project Solutions Engineer with deep technical expertise in on-site clean energy and energy efficiency systems, and a strong drive to translate that expertise into winning customer proposals. This is a high-impact role at the front end of our project development process—where great solutions are conceived, scoped, and brought to life.

As the Project Solutions Engineer, you will own the technical and commercial definition of customer-specific energy solutions—spanning combined heat and power (CHP), geothermal systems, industrial steam decarbonization, chiller and boiler upgrades, and energy efficiency measures. You will work closely with the company’s Business Development leaders and collaborate with our Project Delivery and Asset Management teams to produce rigorous, compelling early-stage project proposals that customers can act on and that will have staying power during the evolving project development process.

Join a motivated, mission-driven team that is laser-focused on delivering measurable customer value and clean energy impact at scale.

The Company

RENEW Energy Partners is a clean energy finance and development firm serving commercial, industrial, and institutional customers. We develop, fund, implement, and own on-site energy systems that reduce energy costs, lower GHG emissions, and optimize building performance. Our team combines deep engineering expertise with project finance capability to deliver solutions that work technically and economically for our customers.

Role Overview

The Project Solutions Engineer is the technical and commercial design leader for early-stage project development solutions for customers. Working in close collaboration with the Business Development leaders, the Project Delivery Team, and the Asset Management Team, you will be responsible for developing complete, defensible project proposals for customer-specific clean energy and efficiency solutions. Each proposal will define:

  • Scope of work and system design basis
  • Preliminary cost estimate and commercial structure
  • Project schedule (development through commissioning)
  • Energy production model (8760 hourly simulation)
  • Project delivery and asset management approach
  • Permitting and regulatory approvals pathway
  • Applicable incentives and tax credits (ITC, PTC, utility programs, etc.)

You will serve as the primary technical voice in customer-facing discussions during the proposal phase, and hand off well-defined packages to the Project Delivery Team for execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop technical and commercial design of early-stage project proposals for various technology solutions like CHP, geothermal, chiller/boiler upgrades, and energy efficiency measures
  • Conduct or oversee site assessments and customer energy audits to support proposal development
  • Partner with the Business Development leaders to shape solutions that are technically sound, commercially competitive, and aligned with customer goals
  • Develop and own the 8760 energy production model for each proposed system, ensuring accuracy of savings and output estimates
  • Define project scope, preliminary equipment sizing, cost estimates, and schedule from site assessment through 50% design and support project closing requirements
  • Identify and quantify applicable incentives, grants, utility rebates, and federal tax credits (ITC/PTC) for each project
  • Map the permitting and approvals pathway, including utility interconnection where applicable
  • Collaborate with the Project Delivery Team to ensure proposed solutions can be effectively and efficiently implemented and commissioned for operation.
  • Collaborate with the Asset Management Team with baseline performance benchmarks for operating projects
  • Manage relationships with pre-qualified engineering consultants, general contractors, subcontractors and external design-build partners
  • Develop and maintain strong customer and partner relationships throughout the proposal process

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering; PE license preferred
  • 7+ years of engineering experience, with substantial focus on on-site energy systems (CHP, HVAC, thermal systems) and/or energy efficiency measures
  • Demonstrated experience developing energy models and/or thermal/electrical load analyses
  • Proficiency in project cost estimating and preliminary system sizing for CHP, chiller/boiler, or similar mechanical/electrical systems
  • Experience working across the development lifecycle: site assessment, feasibility, conceptual design, proposal development, and design development work.
  • Understanding of financial modeling/project finance structures
  • Proficiency in Excel required
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and utility incentive programs (ITC, PTC, rebates, NYSERDA, MassCEC, DOE programs, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate across business development, engineering, and customer-specific teams
  • Clear, persuasive written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites as required

Desired Additional Qualifications
  • Commissioning experience for CHP or building energy systems
  • Experience with utility interconnection processes and permitting for on-site generation
  • AEE Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or equivalent credential
  • Experience with energy-as-a-service (EaaS), ESPC, or performance-based contracting structures
  • Familiarity with project finance (IRR, NPV, debt sizing) as applied to clean energy projects
  • Ability to obtain security clearances for U.S. government facilities

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with experience. The position includes a competitive benefits package and performance-based incentive opportunity.

Location

The job will be based at the company’s headquarters in Boston, MA but will require travel to customer sites on a periodic basis to support the business development process.
