About the Opportunity
The Data Scientist develops statistical and physical models that transform complex sensor data into reliable insights for trace gas and emissions detection. This role contributes directly to product development by designing analytical algorithms, integrating scientific datasets, and validating models for real-world applications. The position combines scientific research, statistical modeling, software development, and data analysis to support environmental monitoring and emissions intelligence.
Responsibilities
• Develop statistical and physical models and algorithms for trace gas detection, attribution, localization, and quantification across measurement platforms.
• Collaborate on atmospheric transport and dispersion modeling to support emissions analytics.
• Apply statistical techniques, including uncertainty quantification and Bayesian methods, to improve model reliability and interpretability.
• Integrate time-series, geospatial, and sensor data into analytical workflows.
• Design and conduct experiments to validate, evaluate, and improve algorithms and models.
• Develop experimental and production-quality Python code for integration into cloud-based platforms.
• Use AI-assisted coding tools while following software engineering and development best practices.
• Manage, analyze, and visualize complex scientific datasets to identify meaningful insights.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate scientific methods into practical product capabilities.
• Document methodologies, experiments, results, and technical findings clearly.
• Communicate complex analytical concepts and conclusions effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
Requirements
• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Atmospheric Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 2 years of research or industry experience in data science, scientific computing, statistical modeling, or a related field.
• Strong experience with statistical modeling, including Bayesian methods.
• Experience working with time-series and geospatial datasets.
• Familiarity with atmospheric transport or dispersion models is advantageous.
• Proficiency in Python and SQL.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills.
• Experience with cloud computing and software development practices is a plus.
Pay Range and Compensation Package
• Base salary range: $130,000–$150,000 per year.
• Total compensation includes base salary, bonus eligibility, and equity.
• Final salary and title may vary based on location, experience, qualifications, and comparable roles.
