Community Energy Specialist

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen is currently recruiting for a temporary, (expected three-year term) full-time Community Energy Specialist to join the Community and Environmental Services team.
The Community Energy Specialist position is responsible for implementing projects and low carbon/renewable energy initiatives to support the Regional District’s Corporate and Community Climate Action Plans. This role is supported in partnership with FortisBC’s Climate Action Partners Program.
Qualifications:
- Degree in business, planning, public policy, sustainability, resource management or a related field.
- In addition to an undergraduate degree, qualified candidates must also hold one of the following:
- A professional designation in Engineering, Planning, or a related profession
- Sustainable Energy Management or Certified Energy Manager credentials
- Graduate degree related to the above-named fields of study.
- A minimum of five (5) years of related experience preferably in a local and/or regional government setting.
- Thorough knowledge of energy management, adaptation, and program implementation
- Experience in project management, project/program delivery, event planning/coordination and resource management is an asset.
- Strong team building skills with the ability to develop effective and collaborative working relationships.
- Ability to exercise tact, discretion, and sound judgment while dealing with sensitive issues.
- Strong verbal communication and conflict resolution skills to meet varying needs of internal and external customers and to mitigate and resolve conflicts when they arise.
- Strong presentation skills, especially the ability to prepare written reports and make oral presentations.
- Strong problem solving, decision making and analytical skills.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and other software used in Regional District operations.
- Ability to work flexible work hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
- Ability to pass and maintain a criminal record check.
- Valid B.C. Driver’s Licence.
This temporary, full-time position is included in the BCGEU bargaining unit. This temporary role is anticipated to be a multi-year term. The hourly wage for the position is $51.97, Paygrade 10, plus an attractive benefits package.
