The Opportunity

As our new Lead Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Engineer, you will be part of our Singapore or Malaysia team and the wider APAC Energy department of over 25 experts. You will work on projects primarily across Southeast Asia and may support international assignments through Ramboll’s global centres of excellence.

Typical assignments include:


  • Leading Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls workstreams in Owner’s Engineer projects
  • Reviewing technical documentation from EPC contractors, OEMs, and technology providers
  • Providing technical advisory to lenders, investors, and asset owners (due diligence, risk assessments, CAPEX/OPEX benchmarking)
  • Supporting feasibility studies, conceptual engineering, and technology evaluations
  • Overseeing electrical and control system scope during construction, commissioning, and performance testing
  • Acting as Lead Engineer for EIC discipline in multidisciplinary project setups

This role contributes to the accelerating demand for reliable, sustainable energy and waste infrastructure in Southeast Asia. You will directly support the region's pathway toward decarbonisation by ensuring safe, efficient, and robust electrical and control systems for WtE, biomass, and energy transition projects.

Travel and Client Engagement

The role may involve travel across Southeast Asia for technical reviews, site inspections, FAT/SAT, stakeholder engagements, and client meetings, depending on project needs.

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead EIC engineering activities across feasibility, FEED, design review, construction, and commissioning
  • Oversee electrical systems review: SLDs, protection coordination, grounding/earthing, MV/LV distribution, switchgear, transformers
  • Review and validate I&C and automation systems: DCS/PLC architecture, control logic, instrumentation design, SCADA
  • Provide Owner’s Engineer support including design clarifications, technical queries, FAT/SAT attendance, site inspections, commissioning review
  • Support technical advisory engagements covering due diligence, risk assessments, and plant performance evaluation
  • Coordinate with process, mechanical, civil/structural, environmental and commercial teams across Ramboll offices
  • Support tender evaluations, vendor assessments, and technology benchmarking
  • Prepare technical reports, assessment notes, and recommendations
  • Engage with grid authorities, regulators, and statutory bodies in Singapore or Malaysia


Qualifications

The following background and experience are highly desirable:


  • 15+ years of experience in Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls engineering
  • Experience in Waste‑to‑Energy, biomass, thermal power plants, industrial utilities, or other large‑scale energy projects
  • Proven experience as a Lead Engineer in consulting engineering firms, EPCs, OEMs, or owner/operator organisations
  • Strong track record delivering Owner’s Engineer and Technical Advisory assignments
  • Strong technical capability in electrical systems, protection schemes, automation architecture, and I&C systems
  • Familiarity with IEC, IEEE standards and relevant Singapore/Malaysia codes and regulatory frameworks
  • Experience in reviewing SLDs, protection studies, control philosophies, logic diagrams, and plant automation systems


Qualifications & Certifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or equivalent
  • Master’s degree is an advantage
  • Licensed Electrical Worker (LEW) in Singapore or equivalent certification in Malaysia (advantage)
  • Professional Engineer (PE/QP) in Singapore or Malaysia (strong asset)
