Senior Manager, Global Media Relations
POSITION: SENIOR MANAGER, GLOBAL MEDIA RELATIONS
The Rainforest Alliance’s Corporate Affairs team is seeking an experienced, results-orientated media relations professional with a consistent track record of developing and implementing integrated communications strategies—ideally within the environmental sustainability space. The ideal candidate is a results-oriented leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and has experience leading diverse teams with varying levels of expertise. They should possess a keen ability to recognize individual strengths and areas for growth and to effectively coach teams toward peak performance. This role requires someone self-motivated, independent, and capable of fostering collaboration across a globally dispersed team.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Manager, Global Media Relations, leads the Rainforest Alliance’s global media team across the Americas, Europe, and Asia Pacific. This role is responsible for developing and driving a cohesive, results-driven media strategy across all markets with measurable results. The team is responsible for all proactive media outreach and earned media while also supporting Corporate Affairs and other internal teams with messaging, reputational management, advocacy, and thought leadership initiatives.
We are looking for a highly proficient senior media relations professional with strong strategic instincts and a proven track record to deliver impactful media coverage. The ideal candidate will anticipate trends, align outreach efforts with business and organizational objectives, and work effectively across time zones and teams.
This high-profile role works closely with the Director of Corporate Affairs to build brand visibility and recognition on a global scale. The Senior Manager, Global Media Relations needs to be comfortable working with select members of the Executive Leadership team to identify and use global opportunities to highlight our work and position in the environmental sustainability space and to elevate brand awareness and understanding in markets across the globe.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Takes ownership and drives the organizational-wide media relations strategy across all markets, ensuring consistent alignment with business goals and organizational objectives. Set clear priorities and KPI’s with the global media team with a results-driven approach.
- Develop and implement proactive media relations plans, including targeted pitching strategies to secure meaningful coverage in both B2B and B2C media outlets globally.
- Provide clear guidance and deadlines for the development and execution of all media-related content, including media pitches, press advisories, opinion pieces, and other media content as needed; ensure the team is proactively pitching and securing media coverage to position the Rainforest Alliance as a globally recognized brand.
- Support a geographically dispersed team in fostering and maintaining relationships with key media outlets, journalists, and other influential voices to help raise awareness for the Rainforest Alliance and its key offerings.
- Ensure the global media team supports the Corporate Reputation Manager in handling crisis communications and rapid response on reputational risks amplified by the media.
- Advise and support the CEO and other members of the Executive Leadership Team in thought leadership opportunities, interview prep, media training, and overall positioning.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure media outreach aligns with business goals and marketing strategies.
- Stay ahead of industry trends and competitive activity; provide insights to inform future media efforts
- Manage annual media relations budget, allocating resources effectively across primary needs and opportunities.
- Ensure the team is monitoring and tracking all media performances using analytical tools, metrics, and engagement and make necessary adjustments based on insights on a quarterly and annual basis.
- Be responsible for the production and execution of comprehensive reports for the leadership team and other stakeholders to demonstrate the effectiveness of media outreach across global markets.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Communications, Media Relations, or Journalism
- 15 + years of experience in media relations/public relations or corporate communications; experience in the environmental sustainability space a plus.
- Confirmed experience in a strategic leadership role; successful track record of ownership and leadership in media relations and external communications.
- Have the ability to set clear objectives, provide strategic direction, and drive the team toward measurable results. Proven ability to prioritize and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and proactively identify challenges, solutions, and opportunities.
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex issues and quickly shift priorities to run day-to-day activities and crisis communications while meeting strict timelines and objectives; be an agile multi-tasker with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Strong ability to interact with senior leadership and foster effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Confident in leading discussions and decision-making.

- National Salary range (Excluding NY and DC) -$76,386 - $109,109
- New York Salary Range -$90,744 - $129,634
- Washington DC Salary Range -$87,832 - $125,475
