About the Rainforest Alliance

Rainforest Alliance, a New York-based 501(c)3, and UTZ, an Amsterdam-based foundation, merged in 2018. Together, the new Rainforest Alliance is now a $70 million per year organization with offices in 17 countries (and growing) and over 5000 staff. The merged organization has two main offices—one in Amsterdam and one in New York City.

Overview

The Rainforest Alliance seeks a pro-active and dynamic Freelance Communications Manager to strengthen the Transformational Innovation team with marketing and communication skills.

The Transformational Innovation team is responsible for developing and testing new value propositions and business models to achieve large scale impact 3-5 years from now.


Main Objectives

We are looking for someone to:

  • Support the Innovation team to position Rainforest Alliance as an innovative organization; sharing new solutions that are being developed by the Innovation team and other RA teams, including communication about how we work and Innovation alliances we are building;
  • Leading and implementing the marketing and communication strategy for two innovation concepts: Nature’s Bank and Future Farmers, with an emphasis on Nature’s Bank;
  • Work with marketing and communications colleagues to develop key messages for Rainforest Alliance (including tailored messaging for the CEO) to communicate externally, and disseminate through press and communications channels (including website, social media, conferences, newsletters, annual report etc.).
  • Support the Innovation team with other relevant tasks, like internal communication, sharpening new concepts and speed up testing by creating surveys, round tables, online testing, etc
  • Write and edit content (long and short-form pieces) pertaining to the work of the innovation team.


Contractor Services at a minimum, must include:

  • Bachelors Degree in Communications, Marketing , or related field;
  • At least 5 years’ experience in (marketing) communications, ideally in a related field. For example, sustainability, conservation, forestry or other multi-stakeholder initiatives.
  • Proven experience in project planning and strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a time sensitive manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills working professionally with individuals at executive and management levels;
  • Knowledge of sustainability trends and market trends a plus;
  • Excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills, including proficiency writing for different communication channels such as websites, newsletters, blogs and articles, and social media;
  • Experience developing engaging content for a business audience;
  • Business-level English required. Proficiency in additional languages (particularly Spanish) is a plus.


Deliverables

  • Marketing and communication strategy for Nature’s Bank and Future Farmers (with emphasis on Nature’s Bank)
  • Key messages for Rainforest Alliance (including tailored messaging for the CEO) to communicate externally, and disseminate through press and communications channels (including website, social media, conferences, newsletters, annual report etc.).
  • Communication content (long and short-form pieces) pertaining to the work of the Innovation team.


General terms and conditions for Request for proposal

  • Proposals and/or any additional information received after the submission time and date are subject to rejection by The Rainforest Alliance. Incomplete proposals may be rejected by RA at its discretion.
  • The Rainforest Alliance reserves the right to request additional information at any time during the procurement process.
  • RA is at liberty to make multiple or no selections as part of the proposal process. RA also reserves the right to cancel the procurement.
  • All proposal costs shall be borne by the applicant and will not be reimbursed by RA.
