Job Summary:

Raftelis is searching for a new team member to join our Solid Waste Team. Working within a team of professionals, the Senior Consultant will be responsible for providing exceptional client service for public municipal solid waste utilities and departments. You will work on a range of multi-disciplinary projects from financial and master planning to procurement support, cost of service rate and fee setting, circularity studies, and other related projects. Your team will rely on your research, writing, and presentation skills to support them in performing analyses, modeling, benchmarking, creating slide decks and reports, and related client services.


This position can be fully remote or hybrid with three days a week in-office, based on the candidate’s preference. We have offices in the following cities: Charlotte, NC; Durham, NC; Greensboro, NC; Orlando, FL; Albany, NY; Cincinnati, OH; Austin, TX; Kansas City, MO; Denver, CO; Bellingham, WA; and Santa Barbara, CA.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Analyze data and prepare MS Excel, MS Word/PowerPoint briefing documents to support a variety of solid waste policy and planning, financial, accounting, and economic studies under the direction of team members, including implementation for recycling, composting and other programs.

  • Under guidance of project managers, work independently and have the ability to switch between projects quickly to meet milestones and deliverables.
  • When working in California, seek alignment with Proposition 218 requirements in the financial planning and decision-making processes.
  • Support senior staff in the development and execution of project work, business development, and marketing activities, and lead junior staff in the management and execution of project work.
  • Assist in benchmarking surveys and industry research. Communicate with clients to gather data and other relevant project information.
  • Utilize public speaking and technical writing skills to produce, edit, and present reports, proposals, briefing documents, and presentations in a clear and succinct manner.
  • Maintain effective, professional attributes while dealing with clients & colleagues


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (planning, sustainability, business, accounting, finance or other related fields)
  • A minimum of 3 years working on projects in the solid waste and/or sustainability industry
  • Strong proficiency and experience with MS Excel, MS Word and PowerPoint; ability to create report templates, modify report templates
  • Critical thinking skills; ability to formulate multiple solutions to problems, test hypothesis and develop solutions based on analysis
  • Ability to work under multiple project managers with competing deadlines and deliverables
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity and comfort with AI tools.
  • Willing and able to travel overnight as needed


Preferences:

  • Master’s degree (planning, sustainability, business, accounting, finance or other related fields)
  • Experience analyzing large data sets, working with and/or developing database queries, using MS Access, SQL server and/or relational databases

The salary range for the Senior Consultant position is $89k to $125k. Compensation depends on education, experience, and location. Employees in the position of Senior Consultant may be eligible for an annual performance bonus in the range of up to 20% of compensation, depending on the firm’s yearly performance, their practices' performance, and the performance of the employee. Such bonuses are not guaranteed and are at the discretion of the firm.
