About The Role
Rabobank Australia & New Zealand is seeking a Data Ecologist to strengthen our sustainability capability and support our clients’ transition to a net‑zero and nature‑positive future.
This role is responsible for managing and evolving the data ecosystem used to capture, integrate, analyse and report customer climate and nature data. You will lead the development of innovative, bottom‑up data solutions that source information from agricultural production systems and the natural environment and integrate this data into existing and emerging bank systems.
Working closely with sustainability, data, technology and frontline teams, this role enables sustainability outcomes to be communicated clearly through reporting, portfolio analysis and client engagement. The Data Ecologist plays a critical role in supporting transition finance solutions and ensuring alignment with Australian and global sustainability strategies, reporting frameworks and Rabobank’s Road‑to‑Paris and Montreal commitments.
By providing high‑quality insights and technical expertise, this role helps frontline Managers incorporate sustainability propositions into client‑centred strategic discussions, strengthening Rabobank’s sustainability value proposition.

Key Accountabilities
In this role, you will:
- Lead and manage strategic data solutions supporting sustainability reporting, portfolio analysis and decision‑making
- Design and implement initiatives that accelerate the sourcing of high‑quality on‑farm emissions and nature data into banking systems
- Develop and oversee data capture solutions for sustainability metrics, including climate and nature indicators
- Work closely with the Data Systems & Governance Lead to ensure data quality, governance and alignment with business KPIs
- Apply expertise in GIS, remote sensing, AI and emerging biodiversity data capture methods to sustainability challenges
- Ensure sustainability reporting systems align with and complement existing bank data ecosystems
- Track, manage and report sustainability goals and metrics within established frameworks
- Provide technical input into sustainability strategy, policies, procedures and assessment processes
- Support training and capability uplift related to sustainability KPIs and transition products
- Contribute to the development of client transition finance solutions
- Ensure data security, traceability and audit readiness
- Drive continuous improvement in data quality, consistency, transparency and innovation
- Share knowledge and best practice across the organisation

Qualifications
Essential
- University degree in Data Science, Geospatial Data Systems, Sustainability, Agribusiness, Finance, Business Administration, Science or a related field
- Postgraduate qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in data systems, including GIS, remote sensing, AI or equivalent
- Experience with sustainability, ecological or biodiversity assessment methodologies
- Demonstrated experience implementing policies and executing strategic initiatives at scale
- Proven experience working across cross‑functional, cross‑disciplinary projects
- Strong understanding of climate science and ecosystem science
- Knowledge of key sustainability themes, reporting frameworks and measurement systems
- Advanced data analysis and systems integration skills
- Subject matter expertise in integrating climate and nature data into financial reporting systems
- Project management and stakeholder engagement capability
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build strong relationships across local and international teams
- Presentation and facilitation skills (training delivery desirable)
