Position Overview/Description:
Hanwha USA seeks a detail-oriented, proactive and strategically minded press associate to join our fast-paced corporate communications team in Hanwha’s Corporate Affairs office in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional writing skills, proven research and graphic design abilities, and a keen attention to detail and deadlines. Success in this position requires a passion for crafting compelling narratives that support corporate objectives, especially in the policymaking space. This role supports high-impact communications across Hanwha’s U.S. subsidiaries, including media relations, internal communications and executive messaging. This position is in-person, five days a week.

Key Responsibilities:
- Draft and distribute news releases, media advisories, statements and briefing materials.
- Build and maintain media lists; track reporters, outlets and industry coverage.
- Copyedit materials for clarity, accuracy, consistency and brand alignment.
- Monitor news cycles and provide timely media reports to internal stakeholders.
- Develop messaging documents, talking points, FAQs and media prep materials.
- Support media outreach, interview coordination and press events.
- Collaborate with social media/digital/marketing teams to amplify press coverage
- Maintain media databases, editorial calendars, meeting notes and internal press archives.
- Align messaging with internal teams and global counterparts at headquarters.
- Manage vendor contracts, media subscriptions and assist with administrative tasks.
- Support media relations efforts primarily with state/local reporters and some trade press.
- Support event planning and provide on-the-ground assistance.
- Stay informed on energy industry trends, clean energy developments and maritime/defense policy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field.
- 1–3 years of relevant experience (agency, corporate, political or nonprofit preferred).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills across audiences.
- Strong organizational skills; able to manage multiple projects on deadline.
- Familiarity with media monitoring and distribution tools (e.g., Cision, PRNewswire).
- Team-oriented, proactive and adaptable in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and graphic design.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong copyediting and proofreading abilities.
- Experience in media relations.
- Comfortable with tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
- Knowledge of AP Style and corporate editorial best practices.
- Ability to distill complex topics into clear, engaging messaging.
- Exposure to policy communications or government affairs is a plus.
- Bonus: Ability to work across industry sectors including energy, manufacturing, defense and shipbuilding.
