POSITION DESCRIPTION:


We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to join our Mobile Commissioning App team to lead the development of our next-generation Mobile Commissioning App, a critical tool for residential solar and energy storage system installers. The ideal candidate will have experience in driving the architecture, execution, and team culture behind a mobile offline-first mobile experience that enables seamless site creation, device configuration, firmware validation, connectivity checks, and layout visualization, and will work closely with distributed engineering teams in US, Korea, and India. This position will be based out of Santa Clara or Irvine.

RESPONSIBILITIES


Technical Leadership & Strategy
  • Define and execute the technical roadmap for the Mobile Commissioning App, with a focus on performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Architect shared mobile components and design systems to support consistent UX across platforms.
  • Ensure seamless integration with Qcells’ EMS firmware, cloud backend, and IoT device protocols.
  • Champion best practices in mobile development, including CI/CD, observability, and performance profiling.

Engineering Excellence
  • Establish and maintain high standards for code quality, testing, documentation, and operational excellence across all tooling teams.
  • Implement metrics and KPIs to measure developer productivity and tool effectiveness.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and technical rigor.


Team Management & Execution
  • Lead a high-performing team of Swift (iOS) and Kotlin (Android) engineers.
  • Support globally distributed teams in Korea and India, fostering a strong async-first culture with flexible overlap hours.
  • Provide career development support for direct reports, including mentoring, coaching, and performance reviews.
  • Manage contractor performance and ensure alignment with team goals and delivery standards.
  • Drive agile execution, sprint planning, and delivery of high-quality software.

Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Product Management, UX/UI, QA, and Hardware Engineering to deliver user-centric solutions.
  • Coordinate with the Cloud Backend team to ensure robust telemetry and device management.
  • Advocate for installer needs and field usability through close collaboration with customer-facing teams.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of software development experience, with 5+ years in engineering management.
  • Proven experience building and launching mobile apps with native iOS and Android teams.
  • Deep understanding of mobile architecture, shared component systems, and design systems.
  • Good understanding in offline strategy, IoT protocols, and connected devices
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Comfortable working across time zones and cultures; experience with remote-first teams.
  • Travel may be required up to 10%, depending on business needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Solar Industry experience (Renewable)
  • Direct experience in connected devices or field services
  • Bilingual in Korean and English
