Sr. Health and Safety & Facility Manager

FlexRack is an integrated solar company that offers custom-designed, fixed tilt ground mount and single-axis solar tracking systems in the commercial and utility-scale solar mounting industries. FlexRack also offers full services, including engineering, geotechnical, pullout testing, field, and layout design services to address the actual site conditions of a project site. FlexRack has completed over 3.5 GW of solar racking installations in over 40 U.S. states, 9 Canadian provinces and across the globe.


SUMMARY


The Senior Manager, EH&S will develop, implement, and manage FLEXRACK’s safety program,


policies, and procedures. The role will oversee continual safety improvements and set annual


objectives and targets. The role will provide technical guidance and leadership to site safety and


operations leaders on safety needs. The role will oversee the development of corporate safety and


environmental management systems to ensure regulatory compliance, eliminate workplace injuries


and reduce FLEXRACK’s environmental footprint. The role will also manage and audit environmental,


health and safety programs and maintain a close working relationship with all facilities. This dual role


also requires this professional to manage all aspects of the business division’s facility’s needs. Their


role is to manage the upkeep and facilities improvements required.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Oversee accident investigations and prevention programs on a corporate level, to minimize injuries and lost time costs to production.

  • Ensure safety program meets Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements and FLEXRACK’s standards.

  • Regularly check to sites and conduct assessments, ensure compliance, and offer guidance on performance improvement plans.

  • Assist as a safety technical expert on periodic and special focus audits.

  • Develop and direct corporate level training and communication programs to build senior

    leadership’s understanding and commitment to EHS issues and associated corporate

    compliance standards.

  • Maintain on-going interaction and open communication with associates, monitor associate

    morale, and implement ideas to improve associate engagement and enablement.

  • Drive and promote zero-incident EHS culture throughout the company.


  • Lead the division safety committees; review and discuss safety needs, provide updates, training, DOT, Hazmat, OSHA and related safety and compliance information.

  • Responsible for updating, maintaining and auditing location safety standards and procedures on a quarterly basis.

  • Develop effective training programs for managers/employees that will efficiently cover all needed/required materials and reduce travel.

  • Investigate all accidents to determine the root cause and provide recommendations that eliminate or reduce future hazard or risk.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the safety program using established goals and make recommendations, and implement corrective action(s) based on industry standards and best practices.

  • Collaborating with building owners and upper management on budgeting for facilities needs.

  • Plan and coordinate all installations (telecommunications, heat, electricity etc.) and

    refurbishments.

  • Performing routine maintenance on facilities and making repairs as needed.

  • Ensuring proper security measures for the workplace, including collaborating with security

    system vendors.

  • Manage the upkeep of facilities equipment and supplies to meet health and safety standards.

  • Monitoring the safety and cleanliness of interior and exterior areas, such as offices,

    conference rooms, parking lots, roads and outdoor spaces.

  • Inspect buildings’ structures to determine the need for repairs or renovations.

  • Review utilities consumption and strive to minimize costs.

  • Supervise sub-contractors (custodians, groundskeepers etc.) and external contractors.

  • Control activities like parking space allocation, waste disposal, building security etc.

  • Support insurance plans and service contracts.

  • Monitor results and audit progress to recommend policies and procedures aimed at reducing EH&S risks.

  • Perform EH&S audits and physically inspect all campuses to identify and resolve possible issues.

  • Effective EH&S culture program management.

  • Deliver sustainability and ESG goals, including waste and energy reduction.


Requirements and Skills

  • Proven experience as H&S / Facilities manager or relevant position.

  • Well-versed in technical / Engineering operations and facilities management best practices.

  • Advanced mechanical skills and knowledge of plumbing, HVAC and other building system.

  • Proficiency with repair tools and techniques.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to speak with all levels

    of employees, guests, vendors and team members.

  • Great time management, organization and prioritization abilities.

  • Keen attention to details and efficient problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and comfortable standing or walking for long periods of time.

  • Knowledge of basic accounting and finance principles.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.

  • Good analytical Critical thinking.

  • BSc / BA in facility management, engineering, business administration or relevant field.

  • Relevant professional qualification (e.g: CFM) will be an advantage.

  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA, DOT, NFPA, EPA, other governmental regulations and laws.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    • Stationary Position: frequently remains stationary up to 90% of the time and sitting up to 8 hours in a day
    • Move/Traverse: infrequently bend, stand, stoop and/or walk
    • Carry Weight: infrequently carry weight and/or lift objects (light to heavy) weighing up to 10 pounds

  • At least 7+ years of developing, implementing and / or managing a safety program in a manufacturing environment.

  • At least 3+ years working in a regional or corporate level role supporting multiple locations. Experience in the specialty manufacturing or construction industry preferred.

  • Certified Safety Professional or equivalent EHS certifications preferred.


  • Hearing and Speech: frequently communicates with the ability to hear and talk on a regular basis with employees, coworkers, and all personnel matters; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • Sight: frequent use of sight to detect images on computer, office documents, and office objects near and far
  • Climb: occasionally ascends/descends on stairway to get to office upper and lower floors
  • Travel: up to 20% as needed
