DIRECTOR OF SUBCONTRACTS

SUMMARY
The Director of Subcontracts is responsible for managing and leading subcontracting efforts from RFP to contract execution, prepare highly customized downstream contracts which involve the integration of many diverse elements of high cost which entail PV, PV plus storage and standalone storage projects. Create and execute the strategic plan to have competitive subcontracting capability for third-party EPC and Qcells developed projects. This position reports to the Senior Director of Subcontracting, or another management personnel that the CEO of the Company may designate. This position is remote with our corporate offices in Irvine, CA. Working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm PST. This position is expected to travel up to 25%.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Regular attendance, in accordance with Company's attendance policy and supervisory assignment, is an essential job duty requirement for this position.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to leverage the experience to optimize the contracting of construction and other professional services.
- Manage and lead the subcontracting team from bid to execution in support of the construction of projects including, but not limited to the following:
- Establish and execute strategic plan for competitive subcontracting capabilities.
- Establish and maintain the subcontracting plan to meet the project schedule(s).
- Manage RFPs for quotation, prepare, review, and confirm the bid evaluations performed by the team
- Negotiate and execute agreements with competitive vendors and partners.
- Negotiate commercial terms in accordance to Company policies and guidelines.
- Ensure prime contract flow downs are incorporated into subcontract documents.
- Develop and negotiate strategic agreements with subcontractors as needed.
- Review, compare, and evaluate subcontractor proposals and historical pricing to determine reasonable pricing and opportunities for cost savings.
- Track cost savings against the budget for each subcontract.
- Ensure project costs are properly categorized when submitting subcontracts for approvals by comparing and adjusting estimating costs vs. actual costs including, but not limited to cost of installation and relevant materials.
- Maintain market intelligence to monitor material and construction costs.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance of contracts and project requirements.
- Support Project Management Team as needed with contract information and input to resolve subcontractor issues, such as under-performance or scope gaps.
- Maintain accurate and complete Purchasing records in accordance with record retention procedures; and
- Perform other related duties and special projects, as assigned by Management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- 7 - 12 years of experience in Construction Contracts Management and/or Procurement.
- 4 - 7 years of experience in Solar industry with utility scale of PV/PV plus Storage procurement of material and/or subcontracting.
- Project estimating experience highly preferred.
- Knowledge in contracting and change order management.
- Ability to work on your own in a fast paced, professional, team environment with minimal supervision.
- Strong negotiation skills preferably with suppliers and subcontractor agreements.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Confidence and the ability to interact with people at all levels of the organization including external clients.
- Computer literacy with an advance knowledge on Microsoft Office including but not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.
- Strong understanding of ERP systems and construction management tools
- SAP experience preferred.
- Procore experience preferred.
- Customer service skills including experience in conducting vendor reviews and evaluation, and maintaining good business relationships.
- Maintains active subcontractor relationships with key partners and industry leaders.
- Able to identify, investigate, and solve problems that might arise with order and in a timely manner.
SALARY RANGE FOR POSITION
The anticipated starting pay range of this position, which is to be located remotely, but with frequent visits to Irvine, CA is $180,000 - $225,000 base salary per year.
The above-listed salary range is required by the California Pay Transparency Act and may differ depending on the location of those candidates hired nationwide. The salary range shared in the job description is for the listed position and only pertains to the candidate if they work in Irvine, CA. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to internal pay equity, skill set, education, licenses and certifications, geographic location, essential job duties and requirements, and the necessary experience relative to the job’s minimum qualifications. An additional discretionary bonus structure or incentives may be offered as part of the overall compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, dental, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
