SUMMARY
The Director of Technical Pre-Sales Support will serve as a key technical interface between Qcells’ commercial organization and its utility-scale customers across solar PV and energy storage segments. This role is responsible for translating complex customer requirements into technically viable and commercially optimized solutions, supporting the pursuit of new EPC and equipment-only opportunities.
The ideal candidate combines technical depth in PV and energy storage design with strong communication and collaboration skills. This individual will actively contribute to project qualification, solution development, and proposal generation across the pre-sales lifecycle. They will work closely with internal teams including Sales, Engineering, Estimating, Procurement, and Project Execution to ensure proposals are not only technically sound but also aligned with Qcells’ strategic goals.
This position reports to the Chief Commercial Officer or another management personnel that CCO may designate. This position is Hybrid based out of the Houston, TX office 3 days per week. Working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm local time. This position may require up to 30% travel.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serve as the technical lead for customer-facing sales support across PV and BESS EPC and equipment-only opportunities.
- Develop system configurations, single-line diagrams, layout concepts, and technical proposal content for utility-scale BESS and solar PV projects.
- Provide technical responses to RFPs, RFIs, and Due Diligence requests in coordination with sales and proposal/estimation teams.
- Support the development of BESS sizing models, energy dispatch strategies, and performance analyses tailored to customer use cases and interconnection requirements.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to align customer needs with the most appropriate technical solutions, ensuring competitiveness and feasibility.
- Analyze customer requirements and grid interconnection parameters to inform optimal system architecture and commercial strategies.
- Lead technical presentations and customer meetings to communicate Qcells’ capabilities and value proposition.
- Monitor key regulatory, code, and standards developments (e.g., UL9540A, NFPA 855) impacting PV and BESS system design.
- Support the hand-off process to execution teams by ensuring continuity of technical documentation and customer expectations.
- Participate in internal process improvements and tool development initiatives to enhance technical sales effectiveness.
- Regular attendance, in accordance with company's attendance policy and supervisory assignment, is an essential job duty requirement for this position.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy systems, including at least 2 years focused on BESS project support or design.
- Proficient understanding of BESS system components (battery racks, PCS, BMS, EMS) and relevant integration and control strategies.
- Familiarity with PV system design and performance tools (e.g., Helioscope, PVSyst, AutoCAD); familiarity with HOMER, ETAP, or similar tools is a plus.
- Ability to interpret interconnection requirements, customer specifications, and performance guarantees into actionable design criteria.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to distill complex technical concepts for executive-level and customer-facing discussions.
- Collaborative and solutions-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail.
- Experience working within cross-functional environments including sales, engineering, and construction teams.
- Familiarity with NEC, IEEE, UL, and NFPA codes relevant to solar and BESS projects.
