EQUIPMENT ENGINEER (VISION)
Reports to: Equipment General Manager
Location: Dalton, GA
Classification: Salary (Exempt)
SUMMARY
The Vision Engineer is responsible for the review, development, deployment, and maintenance of machines both inspection and vision systems used for inspection, alignment, and quality control in production. This role plays a key part in ensuring high accuracy and consistency in automated inspection processes.
The Vision Engineer supports vision-related needs across mounted equipment and production by ensuring consistent inspection performance and system reliability.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain machines both inspection and vision systems to ensure stable inspection performance and system reliability.
- Integrate and management vision system into new and existing automation equipment
- Collaborate with equipment vendors and internal teams to implement and stabilize both inspection and vision systems.
- Support equipment installation, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and software tuning.
- Maintain and update vision system documentation, including configuration files and inspection logic.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for vision-related issues in production.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and drive continuous improvement (CI) of vision performance.
- Train technicians on vision system operation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 1+ years of experience with machine vision systems in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with vision platforms. (e.g., Cognex, Keyence, or others)
- Strong understanding of lighting, lenses, and imaging techniques.
- Proficient in software tools for vision algorithm configuration and tuning.
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues related to vision systems.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and system schematics.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with troubleshooting production equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours or on-call support when necessary.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-based environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to stand and walk in the production area throughout the workday.
- Able to lift to 50 pounds without restriction.
- Reaching, pushing, pulling, or lifting as required within limits set by Hanwha Q CELLS USA, Inc
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or related field
- Experience with integrating vision systems into PLC or robot-based automation.
- Familiarity with image processing, pattern recognition, and AI-based vision tools.
- Experience in high-volume manufacturing or semiconductor industry.
