Reports to: Equipment General Manager
Location: Dalton, GA
Classification: Salary (Exempt)
SUMMARY
The PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) Engineer is responsible for monitoring, programming, testing, and maintaining automated control systems and equipment. This role supports production lines by ensuring reliable PLC performance, resolving software/hardware issues, and implementing improvements for efficiency and safety.
The PLC Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams including equipment engineering, production, and maintenance to robust manufacturing machines performance support.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design, develop, debug, and maintain PLC programs for new and existing production equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve PLC/HMI software and hardware issues in a timely manner.
- Optimize automation systems to improve equipment reliability and performance.
- Support equipment installation, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and process and program modifications.
- Collaborate with equipment vendors and internal teams to stabilize and integrate systems.
- Maintain and update PLC documentation, including logic, electrical schematics, and version control.
- Provide technical support to maximize equipment uptime and troubleshoot issues.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and drive continuous improvement (CI).
- Train maintenance technicians on control systems and basic troubleshooting.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of experience in PLC programming and troubleshooting (e.g., Mitsubishi, Omron, Siemens or others).
- Strong understanding of industrial automation, electrical controls, and sensor technologies.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Proficient in HMI/SCADA systems.
- Experience with troubleshooting production equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours or on-call support when necessary.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team-based environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Able to stand and walk in the production area throughout the workday.
- Able to lift to 50 pounds without restriction.
- Reaching, pushing, pulling, or lifting as required within limits set by Hanwha Q CELLS USA, Inc
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Experience with robot integration and industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, ProfNet, etc.).
- Familiarity with vision systems or MES integration.
- Strong communication skills in both verbal and written in English.
- Experience in a high-volume manufacturing or semiconductor environment.
