(Senior) Manager - Biochar Project Development | Carbon Removal - Sustainability
ABOUT PYREG
PYREG is a German engineering leader providing patented systems that drive the circular and sustainability economy by upcycling organic waste into renewable energy and high-quality biochar for permanent Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR). As a market leader in carbonization and pyrolysis technology, PYREG has developed a patented technology characterized by its ability to process a wide range of feedstocks and deliver precise control over process parameters. Founded in 2009 as a spin-off of the TH Bingen University of Applied Sciences, PYREG has delivered over 55 systems across 14 countries, all certified to meet the highest industry standards for quality and safety.
Backed by private equity and family office investors, PYREG is entering its next phase of international growth. As demand for high-quality biochar and Biochar Carbon Removal (BCR) credits continues to accelerate, we are building the team that will drive our next chapter.
THE ROLE
We are looking for a (Senior) Manager – Biochar Project Development to join our Sales team, reporting to the Head of Biochar Project Development Services.
This "Swiss Army knife" role balances technical advisory with rigorous project coordination. You will guide prospects through early site development and business cases, then serve as the primary coordinator and contracting lead from signature through to commissioning. You will advise clients, coordinate internally, protect PYREG's commercial interests, and help ensure that every project we take on is set up for long-term success.
At PYREG, people take ownership. We are a small, ambitious company where good judgment, initiative, and follow-through matter as much as technical knowledge. If you thrive when no two days look the same and you are genuinely motivated by the role that biochar can play in addressing the climate challenge, this role is for you.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Development and Market Presence (20%)
- Support the development and execution of go-to-market activities targeting PYREG's key customer segments, including municipalities, industrial operators, wastewater utilities, and project developers.
- Create compelling, high-quality commercial content such as pitch decks, brochures, technical summaries, and case studies to support outreach and sales conversations.
- Contribute to marketing campaigns and help position PYREG as a thought leader in the biochar and carbon removal space.
- Represent PYREG at relevant industry events, conferences, and stakeholder forums.
- Contribute to business planning and strategic discussions with leadership, bringing client and market insights to the table.
Consulting and Project Development Services (30%)
- Design and deliver a strong consulting offering that helps prospects assess and develop successful projects using PYREG technology, from initial feedstock analysis and techno-economic assessments through to permitting guidance and biochar offtake support.
- Support clients in understanding the financial case for their projects, including CAPEX, OPEX, revenue streams from biochar sales, BCR credits, and excess energy recovery.
- Build trusted advisor relationships with clients, giving them the confidence and clarity they need to commit to and successfully launch their projects.
- Maintain accurate pipeline records in the CRM system and provide regular reporting on project status, commercial progress, and market intelligence.
Project Coordination and After-Sales (50%)
- Take responsibility for coordinating PYREG's activities after contract signature, acting as the central point of contact between the client, PYREG's production and service teams, and third-party stakeholders such as EPC contractors and engineering firms.
- Monitor project milestones and payment schedules, managing delivery risks proactively and keeping all parties aligned.
- Identify and escalate commercial, technical, contractual risks early, working with leadership and legal counsel to resolve them.
- Capture lessons learned from delivered projects and feed insights back into service design and internal processes.
YOUR PROFILE
Required
- Several years of relevant experience in consulting, project management, or technical sales, preferably within cleantech, renewable energy, environmental technology, waste management, or in the industrial sector.
- Strong client-facing skills, with the ability to build trust, communicate complex topics clearly, and become a genuine advisor to customers at different organizational levels.
- Proven experience drafting, reviewing, and managing commercial contracts and service agreements.
- High proficiency in producing structured, impactful content using the Microsoft Office suite and the ability to leverage AI tools to work efficiently and at high quality.
- A proactive, self-starting mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment without losing attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and financial literacy, comfortable working with project economics including CAPEX, OPEX, IRR, and NPV.
- Willingness to travel internationally on a regular but selective basis.
- Fluent in English; proficiency in German is strongly preferred.
Preferred
- Familiarity with the biochar industry, carbon markets, or the voluntary carbon credit ecosystem, including BCR credit certification pathways.

WHY JOIN PYREG
- A role with real breadth: commercial, technical, advisory, and operational all in one.
- The opportunity to contribute to a company that is delivering measurable, verifiable carbon removal at scale.
- Direct collaboration with a senior leadership team that values initiative and good judgment.
- A flat, entrepreneurial culture where your work has visible impact.
- The chance to grow alongside a company at an exciting inflection point in an industry that matters.
WORKING MODEL AND LOCATION
This is a full-time, permanent position and a hybrid role designed with flexibility in mind. We are very open to candidates who prefer to work largely remotely, with in-person presence at PYREG locations on a regular but selective basis, depending on business needs, collaboration, and key topics. The role is well suited to candidates from the Frankfurt/Wiesbaden or Cologne/Bonn regions and offers the flexibility expected in an international environment that operates across different markets and time zones. OUR COMMITMENT TO INCLUSION
At PYREG, we believe that diverse perspectives fuel the innovation needed to engineer a sustainable tomorrow. We know that talent comes in many forms and that great candidates often hesitate to apply if they do not check every single box in a job description.
