I’m supporting a fast-growing climate technology business that is helping scale the global carbon removal market.
They are looking for a Climate Scientist to assess the quality, risk and commercial viability of some of the most innovative Carbon Dioxide Removal projects globally.
This is not a purely academic research position.
You will take ownership of technical project assessments, review complex and sometimes incomplete evidence, make clear recommendations and work directly with carbon removal suppliers to improve project quality and transparency.
The role will include:
• Leading the scientific and commercial vetting of CDR projects
• Assessing project quality, risks and long-term carbon-credit delivery
• Developing and refining CDR quality standards and assessment frameworks
• Building relationships with project developers and providing technical feedback
• Staying current with developments in carbon removal science and methodologies
• Communicating complex scientific findings clearly to commercial teams and prospective buyers
The strongest candidates will have:
• In-depth knowledge of biomass-based carbon removal, particularly biochar or bioenergy
• An MSc or higher in chemical engineering, environmental science, chemistry or another relevant natural science
• Experience within climate science, sustainability, carbon markets, consulting, academia, government or an NGO
• The confidence to make evidence-based decisions in an emerging and sometimes ambiguous market
• Strong written and verbal scientific communication skills
Experience with LCA, MRV, carbon accounting, techno-economic analysis, financial modelling or environmental impact assessment would be highly valuable.
This opportunity would suit someone who combines scientific rigour with curiosity, commercial awareness and an ownership mentality.
The business offers remote-first working, unlimited annual leave, a monthly company-wide day off and a strong wellbeing package.
Applicants based outside the UK may also be considered where they are within three hours of GMT/BST and able to travel to London quarterly.
