PT Tirta Carbon Indonesia (TCI) is seeking an experienced Peatland Manager to support the development and implementation of the Belayan Peatland Project, a large-scale peatland conservation and restoration initiative in East Kalimantan.

This role is ideal for professionals passionate about peatland restoration, carbon markets, climate action, and community-based conservation. You will play a key role in designing, implementing, and monitoring peatland interventions that generate measurable climate benefits while supporting local communities and biodiversity.

Key ResponsibilitiesPeatland Restoration & Project Implementation
  • Design and implement peatland restoration and conservation activities.
  • Lead rewetting interventions including canal blocking, bund construction, and water table management.
  • Develop strategies for avoided wetland conversion and peatland conservation.
  • Coordinate baseline assessments covering hydrology, peat depth, vegetation, land use, and socio-economic conditions.
Carbon Methodology & Project Documentation
  • Apply Verra VCS methodologies and relevant carbon accounting approaches.
  • Support development of Project Description (PD), DRAM, Monitoring Reports, and validation/verification documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with international carbon standards and registry requirements.
Monitoring & Data Management
  • Develop monitoring systems for GHG emissions, water table levels, peat subsidence, and vegetation recovery.
  • Oversee installation and maintenance of hydrological monitoring infrastructure.
  • Analyze field data and contribute to carbon accounting and reporting.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Work closely with local communities, government agencies, and project partners.
  • Support FPIC processes and community-based livelihood initiatives.
  • Train field teams and local stakeholders on peatland management and monitoring protocols.
Risk & Safeguards Management
  • Assess and manage risks related to fire, drainage, encroachment, and environmental impacts.
  • Support implementation of environmental and social safeguards.
  • Develop peatland-specific fire prevention and response strategies.
Qualifications

✅ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Biology, Geology, Environmental Science, or related disciplines.

✅ Minimum 3 years of experience in peatland conservation, restoration, environmental management, or nature-based solutions.

✅ Experience in voluntary carbon markets, including:

  • Carbon project development
  • Carbon accounting
  • Validation & verification processes
  • International carbon standards

✅ Strong understanding of:

  • Peatland ecology and hydrology
  • Restoration techniques
  • Climate and carbon methodologies

✅ Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools.

✅ GIS experience is an advantage.

✅ Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
