Scope of Eligibility

Description

Open to applicants who meet the requirements below.

Under the close supervision of a supervisory official, in an Environmental Services Program, learns to conduct routine surveys, studies, inspections, and/or investigations relating to the improvement and/or monitoring of environmental conditions, and/or the enforcement of environmental laws/regulations; does other related duties.

Specific to the Position

Division of Climate Change Mitigation and Monitoring

The appointee will serve as a grant officer in the It Pays to Plug In Program. This role involves collaborating with internal and external entities to ensure the submission of accurate applications and grant agreements and completion of work per grant terms.

Division of Air Enforcement

The duties of this position require staff to conduct field evaluations, review and write reports, and interpret codified regulations contained in the Federal and State Air Pollution Control Acts. Candidate must be capable of interpreting complex data and regulations to make compliance status determinations. Candidate will be responsible for entering all findings and reports into the Department's data management system, communicating and providing guidance to the regulated community, and meeting with stakeholders.

Division of Waste & UST Compliance and Enforcement

Conduct inspections of regulated Underground Storage Tanks. Generate and issue Notices of Violation, Administrative Orders, Notice of Civil Administrative Penalty Assessment, Administrative Consent Orders and Settlement Agreements. Perform follow-up inspections to ensure that compliance has been achieved and is being maintained. Perform Compliance Assistance services to the regulated community.

Requirements

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in one of the Physical Sciences, Environmental Sciences/Studies, Chemical Sciences, Biological Sciences, or in Environmental Planning, Environmental Policy, or Physical Geography; or in Civil Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Bio-resource Engineering.

NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility.

License

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
