Role Overview
As a Solar Estimator, you’ll play a key role in the financial and strategic success of our solar projects. You’ll develop precise, competitive, and profitable cost estimates that help us win projects and deliver exceptional results.
From analyzing project specifications to coordinating with engineers, project managers, and clients, you’ll help Powerfull Solar stay ahead in a fast-moving, high-growth industry.
This role is ideal for an experienced estimator who thrives in a fast-paced environment, has a strong technical background in solar or electrical construction, and wants to make a measurable impact on the renewable energy landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Proposal Development
- Review project plans, specifications, and requirements to define scope and deliverables.
- Conduct detailed site assessments and collect accurate data for pricing.
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates for labor, materials, and subcontractor services.
- Evaluate vendor and subcontractor bids for competitiveness and compliance.
- Prepare professional, winning proposals that align with client expectations and company standards.
Cost Analysis & Risk Assessment
- Identify opportunities to optimize costs and improve margins without sacrificing quality.
- Analyze project risks and include appropriate contingencies in estimates.
- Maintain detailed cost data and pricing history for future project use.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with project managers, engineers, and sales teams to refine bids and proposals.
- Communicate effectively with vendors, subcontractors, and clients to ensure pricing accuracy and clarity.
- Participate in client meetings to explain estimates and provide technical insights.
Process Improvement & Innovation
- Stay up to date with solar technologies, materials, and industry trends to enhance estimating accuracy.
- Recommend improvements to workflows, estimating tools, and cost-tracking systems.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in estimating, ideally within solar, renewable energy, or electrical construction.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of solar PV systems, components, and installation processes.
- Proficiency in estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and project management tools.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and schematics.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills with an emphasis on professionalism and accuracy.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
⚙️ Working Environment & Physical Requirements
- Fast-paced, collaborative office environment with occasional site visits.
- Ability to perform site assessments, including climbing ladders and navigating construction environments.
- May require extended hours or weekends to meet project deadlines.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods while using a computer.
- Travel to project sites and client meetings as needed.
