About The Role
As Principal Data Scientist on our Innovation team, you'll identify and prototype breakthrough solutions using Power Factors' extensive operational database of 200+ GW renewable assets. You'll drive new product development from concept to reality, working hands-on with Python and AI while collaborating closely with software developers, product managers, and customers. Your innovations will directly create new revenue streams. Required Qualifications
Experience & Domain Expertise
- 12+ years of experience in the renewable energy industry, with a proven track record at established consultants, energy asset owners, or asset operators
- Deep understanding of solar, wind, and battery storage asset operations, performance characteristics, and development / operational challenges
- Demonstrated experience working with large-scale operational datasets from renewable energy assets
- Demonstrated experience building prototypes and products used by energy asset owners, developers and operators to impact business decisions
- Advanced proficiency in Python and modern data science libraries (pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch, etc.)
- Strong command of statistical analysis, machine learning, and AI techniques with practical application experience
- Hands-on experience with data engineering concepts and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Proven ability to take concepts from ideation through prototype to production-ready solutions
- Experience with version control (Git) and collaborative software development practices
- Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience collaborating closely with software engineering teams and speaking their language (APIs, microservices, deployment pipelines, etc.)
- Track record of translating customer needs and business opportunities into technical solutions
- Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to identify opportunities and drive initiatives independently
- Entrepreneurial mindset with experience in innovation or new product development
- Comfort with ambiguity and ability to navigate unstructured problem spaces
- PhD or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Physics, Engineering, or related quantitative field
- Experience with time-series forecasting, anomaly detection, or predictive maintenance in industrial settings
- Prior experience in a consultancy environment interfacing directly with clients
- Familiarity with SCADA systems, asset performance monitoring platforms, or energy trading/markets
- Background in developing commercial products or revenue-generating data solutions
- Experience with real-time data processing and streaming analytics
- Knowledge of energy market structures, power purchase agreements (PPAs), or grid operations
- Published research or patents in renewable energy, machine learning, or related fields
- Experience with MLOps practices and deploying models at scale
- Contributions to open-source projects or active participation in the data science community
Innovation & Product Development
- Identify, evaluate, and prioritize innovative opportunities to create new revenue streams for Power Factors
- Lead the development of novel data science solutions from concept through prototype, leveraging Power Factors' extensive operational database of 200+ GW of renewable assets
