About Power Engineers Collaborative

Power Engineers Collaborative, LLC (PEC), a division of Zero6 Energy, Inc., is an engineering firm focused on the design and execution of large-scale power and energy infrastructure projects. Based in Brookfield, Wisconsin, about 15 minutes outside of downtown Milwaukee, PEC works with electric utilities, independent power developers, and industrial clients to deliver new generation facilities, plant upgrades, and balance-of-plant systems.

Our current workload includes a mix of natural gas, combined heat and power (CHP), steam cycle, and renewable energy projects with hydrogen and carbon capture. A significant portion of this work is tied to the growing demand for new generation driven by data centers and electric vehicle infrastructure.

With the present backlog and flow of project awards, PEC is growing its mechanical design team. This role offers direct involvement in the layout and modeling of piping systems, mechanical equipment, and plant infrastructure. Power generation requires significant piping, so if you have 5-10+ years in piping design and are interested in working on a wide variety of projects, and will work a hybrid role, we would love to talk with you.

Position Summary

Location: Brookfield, WI (Office desired/ hybrid considered)

Compensation Range: $80,000 – $105,000 base + eligible for bonus compensation

In this role, you’ll help bring major energy projects to life by leading the mechanical layout and 3D modeling of equipment, piping, and supporting systems.

This position requires detail-driven skills to translate engineering concepts into fully coordinated models and drawing sets.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D models and layout drawings for power plant mechanical systems using AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, and related CAD tools
  • Draft P&IDs, general arrangements, isometric piping drawings, sections, and details based on engineering input
  • Design and model complete mechanical systems for: Steam cycle piping and equipment, boiler feedwater and condensate systems, water treatment and chemical feed systems, fuel handling and storage systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, heat exchangers and thermal transfer loops, rotating equipment (e.g., pumps, fans, generators, turbines), balance-of-plant systems (compressed air, service water, HVAC, etc.).
  • Perform equipment layout design including access, maintenance clearance, and fit-up within structural and architectural constraints
  • Check for interferences in the 3D model using clash detection tools and coordinate with other disciplines
  • Evaluate constructability of design and make adjustments to support field installation and system integration
  • Serve as design lead on mechanical scope within multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Support and guide junior designers and drafters; act as a mentor in technical development
  • Engage in model data management and documentation control for design deliverables
  • Review vendor drawings and incorporate into plant design as required
  • Participate in project reviews, design checks, and quality assurance steps to ensure alignment with client expectations
  • Lead efforts to resolve clashes and interferences in the model; support constructability reviews and incorporate field constraints

Required Skills and Experience

  • 10 year of experience is preferred, (minimum of 5 years), of experience in mechanical/piping design for power generation or industrial facilities (co-gen, CHP, chemical, energy, or utility sectors)
  • Proficiency in 3D design tools such as Autodesk Plant 3D, Revit, AutoCAD MEP, CADWorx, SmartPlant 3D (SP3D), or similar Certification of proficiencies are a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of Navisworks Manage for model navigation and clash detection
  • Familiarity with industry standards, constructability, and power plant system design (steam cycle, condensate, water treatment, rotating equipment, etc.)
  • Experience in the layout and design requirements of BP&V Sec.1 and B31.1 and B31.3 piping systems
  • Experience generating equipment layouts and mechanical system plans for both above and below ground piping systems
  • Ability to independently interpret engineering design criteria and deliver complete drawing packages
  • Competency with P&ID integration and management of 3D model data
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills across design disciplines
  • Associate’s degree in Drafting/Design Technology preferred; relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree

Additional Information

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.; sponsorship is not available for this role
  • May involve occasional travel to project sites for field verification or coordination
  • Must be able to work productively both independently and in team environments
  • PEC offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, 401(k) with match, paid time off, and professional development support
