Senior Accountant

Reports to Associate Director of Finance

We are also building a unique, open-source industry-wide marketing capability, driven by cutting edge data analytics and consumer research.


Great causes need great administrative, operations, and finance talent. To that end, we are looking for a proactive, organized, and diligent Senior Accountant to join our finance team. The Senior Accountant will play an integral role on the team by handling intricate accounting transactions and reporting in support of the monthly close for multiple subsidiaries. The Senior Accountant will also ensure compliance with accounting principles and will be involved in the budgeting and forecasting process to ensure data is updated in NetSuite NSPB, aligning with program planning strategy.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Compile and analyze financial and operational information required to prepare journal entries; review accounting classifications in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and PEC’s accounting procedures.
  • Prepare, record, analyze and report accounting transactions and ensure the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy and compliance; i.e month end close entries for multiple subsidiaries - prepaids, accruals, etc.
  • Prepare and complete bank reconciliations for multiple bank accounts in NetSuite, inclusive of payment posting for AR invoices.
  • Prepare and complete the investment reconciliation and associated schedules.
  • Record contribution and contract revenue in accordance with relevant grant & contract agreements inclusive of invoice preparation.
  • Review AR Aging to ensure collections are aligned with agreements. Communicate delays to Associate Director of Finance & SVP of Finance.
  • Prepare & upload payroll allocation file; inclusive of timekeeping and wage data allocated by department, grant, donor and gl account via NetSuite.
  • Reconcile the Difference Card monthly activity and allocate by department/ program via NetSuite
  • Resolve accounting and reporting issues as necessary; prepare monthly budget-versus-actual status reports for use by the Associate Director of Finance & SVP of Finance; identify issues, concerns and problems and communicate with Associate Director of Finance & SVP of Finance.
  • Support preparation of internal and external financial statements and reports ensuring accuracy and legal compliance iIncluding monthly financial reporting preparation for multiple subsidiaries
  • Support document preparation & requests for external auditors;
  • Support the AP function with 1099 processing, where applicable
  • Must be able to work flexible hours as needed to meet department deadlines
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

  • Perform other duties as required to support both the finance department and financial operations for the organization


Qualifications / Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 7+ years of related work experience, preferably in a senior level accounting role
  • Experience in both nonprofit and private sector accounting a plus
  • Experience working with standard accounting software packages required; NetSuite GL a must. Netsuite Planning & budgeting, Bill.com, and Expensify a plus.
  • Excellent spreadsheet proficiency, familiarity with data query/analysis tools (pivot tables, vlookups and Adobe)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail

Potential Energy is currently a fully remote company. The organization may take steps to facilitate in-person company space in key areas of the country should that be deemed necessary.
