Business Development Manager – Commercial Solar

Christchurch-based office | $100k base + vehicle | OTE $200k

Platinum Energy is a well-established, rapidly growing solar provider seeking a commercially minded Business Development Manager to expand its commercial and agricultural solar presence across the South Island.

This is a genuine hunter role. You'll be out in the market identifying prospects, opening doors and winning new business; building relationships and converting opportunities into signed B2B projects. If you thrive on creating your own momentum rather than waiting for leads to arrive, you'll do well here.

A solar background isn't essential. What's more important is that you're a capable salesperson from a commercial, technical, energy, electrical, construction, property or similar B2B field, with the ability to quickly grasp a technical solution.

The Opportunity

  • Grow commercial and agricultural solar business throughout the South Island
  • Prospect and engage commercial, industrial, farming and adjacent agribusiness clients
  • Develop and maintain a strong project pipeline, with self-sourced opportunities at its core
  • Present solar, battery and energy solutions framed around commercial value
  • Partner with an experienced technical and delivery team
  • Create proposals, business cases and ROI-driven solutions
  • Take ownership of opportunities from initial contact to signed agreement
  • Cultivate repeat business, referrals and multi-site client relationships
  • Work toward ambitious growth targets
  • OTE circa $200k, with genuine upside for strong performers

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated B2B business development or solution sales success, with a hunter track record
  • A proactive new-business mindset: you take the initiative to create your own opportunities
  • Commercially astute, comfortable discussing ROI, investment returns and financial outcomes
  • Driven, competitive and motivated by achieving results
  • Skilled at building rapport with business owners, executives and key decision-makers
  • At ease selling higher-value solutions with longer sales cycles
  • Disciplined approach to pipeline management and CRM use
  • Solar or renewable energy experience an advantage, though not essential
  • Full NZ driver's licence

The Package

  • Circa $100,000 base salary
  • Company vehicle
  • OTE circa $200,000
  • Uncapped commission structure
  • Strong internal technical support
  • Genuine opportunity to build a significant commercial solar portfolio across the South Island

This role suits a motivated salesperson ready to move beyond account management: someone who can spot an opportunity, build the relationship and turn it into revenue.
