Director / Manager – Tax Credit & Tax Equity Transactions
Location: San Francisco (preferred) – hybrid/remote flexibility
Company Overview
Our client is a pioneering clean energy finance platform operating at the intersection of renewable energy and tax credits. Founded by a team of seasoned executives with decades of experience in project finance and development, they have collectively raised more than $5B to support hundreds of renewable projects. Backed by a leading sustainable infrastructure investor, the company has launched a first-of-its-kind marketplace that enables efficient tax credit transfers across solar, wind, storage, and other clean technologies.
The Role
My client is hiring a Director or Manager (title flexible depending on experience) to lead tax credit and tax equity transactions. This individual will play a hands-on role in structuring and closing deals, while serving as a subject matter expert in tax credit finance. The ideal candidate brings direct experience executing tax credit transfers or tax equity deals and can immediately hit the ground running to reduce workload across the leadership team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute clean energy tax credit transactions (ITC, PTC, advanced manufacturing, etc.) from start to finish.
- Structure, negotiate, and close tax equity or transfer deals, working closely with developers, corporates, lenders, and legal advisors.
- Manage transaction processes efficiently while ensuring risk is well allocated and deals are closed on schedule.
- Provide technical expertise on tax credit structuring, compliance, and market dynamics.
- Support internal and external stakeholders with clear, concise communication on deal structures and financial implications.
- Mentor junior team members and help shape transaction best practices as the platform grows.
Qualifications
- 6–12+ years of experience in renewable energy finance, ideally from an IPP, financial institution, or advisory platform.
- Hands-on experience executing tax equity financings or tax credit transfers (ITC experience required; PTC/advanced manufacturing a plus).
- Strong technical knowledge of U.S. clean energy tax credits and related structuring requirements.
- Proven ability to manage counsel, advisors, and counterparties effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate and close complex transactions independently.
- Familiarity with project finance debt structures is a plus, though direct tax credit experience is essential.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage confidently with senior executives and investors.
