Role: Electricity Market Operations Specialist

Location: Berlin, Germany (Office-Based)

A rapidly growing clean-energy technology company is building its own electricity-supply operation in Germany and is looking to appoint an Electricity Market Operations Specialist to help establish and run the market processes behind it.

Combining renewable energy, software and finance, the business is creating the infrastructure needed to accelerate the adoption of solar, battery storage, heat pumps and smarter energy services across Europe. This is an opportunity to join at a pivotal stage of growth, taking ownership of critical German energy-market processes while helping build the operational foundations of a modern electricity supplier.

Working closely with internal Operations, Technology and Finance teams, as well as grid operators, market partners and external service providers, you will ensure regulated electricity-market processes run accurately, compliantly and reliably as volumes scale.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage daily market communication under GPKE and MaBiS, including registrations, deregistrations, supplier-switching processes, meter data and relevant settlement flows.
  • Monitor MaKo/EDM processes, identifying and resolving errors across UTILMD, MSCONS and APERAK messages.
  • Own clarification cases with grid operators and market partners, ensuring no unresolved issue impacts customer supply, billing or balancing processes.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with grid operators, service providers and other market participants.
  • Ensure processes remain compliant with relevant German energy-market requirements, including GPKE, MaBiS, EEG and BNetzA process changes.
  • Investigate process failures, identify root causes and implement lasting improvements.
  • Work cross-functionally with Customer Operations, Product, Finance and Technology to resolve operational issues quickly.
  • Support automation and optimisation initiatives, reducing manual clarification cases and improving turnaround times as the business grows.

Candidate profile

  • Previous experience in German electricity market operations, energy data management or market communication, ideally with an energy supplier, utility, Stadtwerk or energy-tech business.
  • Practical knowledge of GPKE, MaBiS and EDIFACT formats including UTILMD, MSCONS and APERAK.
  • Experience managing supplier-switching processes, meter-data flows and clarification cases with market partners.
  • Familiarity with MaKo or EDM software and confidence working across regulated energy-market processes.
  • A strong understanding of the relationship between suppliers, distribution-system operators and transmission-system operators.
  • Highly organised, analytical and comfortable managing multiple priorities without leaving issues unresolved.
  • A proactive mindset, with the confidence to identify gaps, improve processes and take ownership in a fast-moving environment.
  • Fluent German communication skills are essential. English would be advantageous.
  • Experience with dynamic tariffs, smart-meter processes or §14a EnWG would be beneficial, as would experience helping a new or growing supplier establish market processes.

What’s on offer

  • Competitive base salary, performance-related bonus and equity in a fast-growing business.
  • Unlimited access to enterprise AI tools, allowing you to automate routine work and focus on complex operational decisions.
  • Genuine ownership from day one, with direct exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to shape a growing electricity-supply operation.
  • A high-performance, collaborative office environment in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin.
  • Latest Apple hardware, free breakfast and dinner, a fully stocked kitchen and regular team events.
  • 25 days’ holiday, fully covered Deutschlandticket, Urban Sports Club membership and employee discounts.
  • WHOOP Peak membership fully covered after six months.

This is more than a traditional utility operations role. You will combine deep energy-market expertise with technology, automation and real operational ownership, helping shape how an ambitious energy business delivers electricity services at scale.

Alongside a strong base salary and performance-related bonus, the role includes equity in the business, giving you the opportunity to share in the company’s continued growth and success.
