Operations - Design - Designer
I&C Designer Contract (Houston, TX) We are seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Designer to join an engineering team on a major hydrogen processing facility currently under development in the Western U.S. The work involves supporting the design of a new renewable energy plant being constructed on a previously industrial site, requiring thoughtful integration of new systems with existing infrastructure. The position is office-based in Houston, TX and offered as a 12 to 18-month contract assignment.

Responsibilities:
Develop and update I&C design deliverables including instrument location drawings, loop diagrams, wiring schematics, and control panel layouts.
Support creation and maintenance of instrument index and I/O lists.
Prepare cable routing layouts, conduit layouts, and termination drawings using industry-standard design tools.
Work closely with process, piping, and electrical teams to ensure proper integration of control and instrumentation systems.
Participate in 3D model reviews and contribute to clash detection and constructability evaluations.
Review vendor drawings and data to ensure compliance with project standards.
Provide design support during procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
Qualifications:
~5+ years of I&C design experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, or hydrogen/renewable energy facilities.
~ Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI/INtools), or similar.
~ Strong knowledge of instrumentation specifications, control system layouts, and wiring standards.
~ Familiarity with DCS/PLC systems and their integration into plant operations.
~ Ability to collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines.
~ Prior experience supporting new-build projects on previously developed or industrial (brownfield) sites is a plus.
