Senior Accountant - Accounts Payable
ABOUT THE ROLE

As we forge ahead, we're on the lookout for a dynamic and versatile Senior Accounts Payable Accountant to join our ranks. The ideal candidate will be comfortable in a small team environment, and ready to bring professional experience in day-to-day accounting duties such as payables, receivables, expenses and month-end closing. Your collaborative nature and exceptional communication skills make you an integral part of our close-knit team working towards common goals and financial excellence.
This is a full time position reporting to the Accounting Manager.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
● Manage full cycle Accounts Payable functions
● Review financial statements for accuracy and legal compliance
● Enter accounting-related information into various accounting platforms
● Inspect accounting workpapers for efficiency and accuracy while recommending improvements
● Organize and update financial records
● Recommend and implement process improvements
● Assist with the monthly close process
● Collaborate with internal team members to ensure accurate and timely vendor bill payments in alignment with contracts
● Support planning and prepare documents for annual auditing processes for US and International operations
● Support activity related to annual insurance renewal and tax preparation process
● Integrate vendors into the accounting process
ABOUT YOU
You are an enthusiastic individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment with a highly collaborative team. You take pride in your accuracy and have experience accurately maintaining a general ledger and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). You are a continual learner, are comfortable asking questions, and are looking to bring your expertise to a Benefit Corporation focused on helping businesses take urgent action on climate change.
We believe the following skills will give you the best opportunity for success in this role:
● 4+ years of accounting experience
● 2+ years of Accounts Payable experience
● Full cycle GL accounting experience
● Comfortable with ambiguity and process changes (we are fast growing and nimble company)
● Minimum 3 years of experience with Netsuite, Expensify, Adaptive or similar
● Strong numeracy and analytical skills
● Experience working with international currencies
● Advanced Excel skills and experience with Access
● Superb verbal and written communication skills
● Highly organized and detail-oriented
● Excellent problem-solving and time management skills
● Interest in renewable energy helpful
● CPA or currently a CPA candidate, preferred
● Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred
HOW WE DEFINE SUCCESS
Within 30 days
● Acquire the knowledge to navigate accounting information for the client across various disciplines, platforms and locations
● Establish cross-functional relationships with key stakeholders, internal team members, and leaders.
● Gain a strong understanding of the team's structure, systems, processes, and tools.
● Demonstrate mastery of full-cycle AP and month-end journal entries; complete a comprehensive review of existing workpapers.
● Understand internal and external deadlines and requirements for financial reporting
● Hone skills in managing and maintaining a general ledger, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
After 90 days,
● Independently execute assigned work, actively contributing to the monthly close process, showcasing accuracy and efficiency.
● Play an active role in supporting staff accountants in various types of accounting tasks.
● Demonstrate the ability to actively contribute to the improvement of existing accounting workpapers.
● Proactively identify inefficiencies in the month-end close; take ownership of complex balance sheet reconciliations
Within the First 6 Months,
● Recommending process improvements and enhancements to existing accounting workpapers.
● Developing strategic plans aligned with the company's goals, showcasing a proactive and forward-thinking approach.
● Lead the preparation for annual insurance renewals and tax schedules; mentor the Staff Accountant on technical accounting entries.
Within 1 Year,
● Effectively supporting staff accounts ensuring smooth operations and adherence to financial standards.
● Demonstrate expertise in Accounts Payable functions, financial statement review, and integration of vendors into the accounting process.
● Showcase proficiency in supporting annual auditing processes for both US and international operations.
● Successfully contribute to the annual insurance renewal and tax preparation process.
● Proactively engage in continual learning, staying updated on accounting best practices and industry standards.
