Job Purpose

To deliver high quality research and policy analysis to inform and support Oxfam Irelands

advocacy and campaigns primarily in the area of Climate Justice at the Irish, including Northern

Ireland, EU and global levels.

Key activities

Actively lead and develop research and robust evidence - based policy analysis, informed by country/regional programme experience, to influence key stakeholders at Irish, northern Irish, EU and global level.

Produce high - quality written policy material on climate justice and other areas of Oxfams work for public dissemination, including campaign literature

Keep up to date on the latest in academic and public policy developments in relevant policy areas and reflect these learnings back into the wider organisation

Oversee the commissioning and management of pieces of research in the areas of Climate Justice to underpin our advocacy work.

Organise conferences and other events with Oxfam colleagues and with partners across the island

Work with the Oxfam International Secretariat in the development of research and policy and interpretate shared Oxfam policy for the Irish context.

Support other departments across Oxfam to carry out influencing work in line with our operational plans

Work closely with Oxfams regional /country teams and policy/advocacy teams across the confederation where appropriate .

Represent Oxfam Ireland and build strategic relationships on relevant Oxfam International working groups, in external coalitions, with academia and at lobbying/consultation events or conferences .

Personal Specification

Essential

Job Requirements

Experience of producing research and policy papers in climate or related areas .

In- depth knowledge of Irish, EU and global policies on Climate Justice.

Good knowledge and understanding of other key issues in the development sector and methods of political and public engagement .

Third level qualification in relevant subject area .

In- depth knowledge of regional, national and international institutions relevant to the delivery of new policy related to international development issues .

Knowledge of political environment on the island of Ireland and how it relates to the organisations work in terms of development issues .

Experience of leading strategy development for an organisation .

Right to work in ROI and UK.

Desirable

Masters Qualification in relevant subject area .

Experience of undertaking gender analyses related to policy and advocacy work.

Experience of working directly with policy makers in Ireland and the EU .

Experience in representing organisations in media and other public fora .

Experience advocating and campaigning, especially in conjunction with other civil society organisations and grassroots movements .

Demonstrable track record in the successful delivery of innovative, multi - channel advocacy.

Track record in building networks and influencing with strong interpersonal and negotiating skills for engagement with a wide variety of audiences.

Qualifications & Requirements

Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the ability to communicate complex messages in an accessible manner for a variety of audiences .

Ability to work well across diverse teams, bring positivity and enthusiasm to the task at hand as well as strong problem -solving skills and trustworthiness.

Strong administration, organisational and time management skills .

Ability to work on own initiative and independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team and wider department.

Ability and willingness to travel, both at home and abroad if required.

Flexible in working hours ability to work evening and weekends if needed.
