R&D Technician I or II
Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
OxEon Energy is hiring a Development & Test Technician to support the fabrication, assembly, and testing of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) and solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOEC). This role involves hands-on laboratory and manufacturing floor work, assisting engineers and scientists in carrying out experiments, operating equipment, collecting data, and ensuring that processes and facilities are maintained in safe, efficient working order.
Technicians at OxEon are critical to bringing innovative designs to life, supporting space and terrestrial energy systems that provide clean fuels, destroy hazardous chemicals, and enable human exploration of the Moon and Mars.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Document processes and report unusual or unexpected results to the head engineer.
Follow and maintain safety guidelines outlined by OSHA and OxEon safety standards.
Load and unload ceramic and metallic parts into high-temperature furnaces for thermal processing.
Perform sealing, infiltration, interconnect processing, electrolyte processing, powder processing, and button cell processing.
Apply coatings using screen printing, spraying, fluid dispensing, spray coating, or other techniques.
Conduct tape casting, inspection, and solution development processing.
Batch, mix, and manage chemical solutions, thick film inks, ceramic slips, slurries, and other compounds in a safe and efficient manner.
Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Coordinate procurement activities, generate parts lists, and submit purchase orders.
Work collaboratively with technicians and engineers to complete tasks and meet project deliverables.
Support ink processing and related development activities.
Ensure proper handling, storage, and usage of chemicals and materials.
Contribute to process improvements and R&D initiatives through accurate documentation and reporting.
Perform other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work in office, R&D laboratories, and manufacturing environments
Hands-on exposure to chemicals, powders, high temperatures, and electrochemical systems.
Will provide all necessary PPE.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1 – 2 years Hands-on experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, or technical environment.
Ability to use precision measurement tools and basic lab equipment.
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to follow written procedures.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Must be safety-conscious, adaptable, and able to work well in a team.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
3 - 5 years of experience in materials processing, testing, or electrochemical systems.
Familiarity with ceramic processing (tape casting, sintering, screen printing).
Experience with microscopes, furnaces, or electrochemical test stands.
Basic data analysis and report preparation skills.
U.S. Citizenship Required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
High School or GED
PREFERRED EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Associate degree or technical certification in materials science, chemistry, mechanical/electrical technology, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to occasionally lift 25–50 lbs; rarely up to 75 lbs with assistance.
Position involves standing, walking, and working on the manufacturing floor.
Occasional stooping, crouching, and overhead reaching required.
Frequent exposure to heat, cold, noise, and laboratory chemicals.
