Location: Hybrid role based in St. Paul, Minnesota, with the opportunity to work from home 1-2 days per week depending on training, performance, and business needs.

Job Description

  • Lead estimating efforts for commercial solar projects by developing accurate, competitive, and well-supported project cost estimates
  • Review plans, specifications, contracts, and project documents to ensure complete scope coverage and pricing accuracy
  • Perform takeoffs and build pricing for labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, indirect costs, allowances, exclusions, and contingencies
  • Support preconstruction planning through feasibility reviews, preliminary scoping, conceptual design input, and estimating documentation
  • Coordinate vendor and subcontractor bid requests and analyze incoming proposals for completeness, risk, and competitiveness
  • Partner with design, engineering, procurement, project management, and operations teams to evaluate constructability and identify value engineering opportunities
  • Help develop pricing narratives, proposal support materials, change order input, and estimate summary documentation
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and occasional client-facing discussions to validate assumptions and support project pursuit efforts
  • Apply knowledge of wage rates, labor classifications, market conditions, and renewable energy incentives to strengthen estimate quality
  • Maintain organized estimating files, historical pricing data, assumptions logs, and other bid documentation to support future success
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in estimating tools, systems, and processes
  • Support a positive, collaborative, and high-accountability team environment

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of directly relevant commercial solar estimating experience
  • Experience estimating commercial solar PV projects such as rooftop, carport, and ground-mount systems
  • Strong understanding of construction means and methods, electrical systems, and solar balance-of-system components
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and bid documents
  • Experience with estimating software, spreadsheets, and document management tools
  • Strong communication, organization, prioritization, and time management skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners
  • Comfortable managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Energy storage estimating experience is a plus
  • NABCEP certification is a plus, or ability to obtain certification within 12 months
  • Experience with Google Workspace, CRM, ERP, Salesforce, NetSuite, or similar platforms is helpful
