Job Overview

NYSERDA seeks to hire an Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager to join the Buildings Strategy and Planning team to support project management and coordination for building data and tools, market research, market insights and other research-related activities, as well as conduct data analysis and research assignments as relevant. This role will be responsible for managing assigned project-related activities for the Buildings Strategy and Planning team, including project management, reporting, budgeting, contract management, required analysis and research, stakeholder relationships associated with the teams’ programs and other interventions introduced into the market as applicable. The Assistant Project Manager or Project Manager will assist in planning and developing initiatives and strategies that overcome market barriers, encourage private capital investment, and accelerate the scale and penetration of energy efficiency and clean energy.

The ideal candidate needs to be a collaborative and motivated self-starter who is comfortable working in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment. They will need to be curious, flexible and responsive, enjoy interacting with and seeking feedback from relevant stakeholders, have a high attention to detail and an internal drive to set and achieve personal and team goals. The ideal candidate would also have familiarity with the building, energy, and climate policy landscape both in New York State and at large, and demonstrate curiosity in researching and analyzing how these policies drive building-related decision-making, as well as shape the Clean & Resilient Buildings team’s activities. Preferably, this candidate also has experience with collecting and analyzing data related to buildings’ physical characteristics and energy performance, research into approaches to decarbonization, and data analysis to develop market insights in the clean energy space.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform research and data analysis that help identify barriers and opportunities for advancing clean and resilient buildings in NYS
  • Support the development of databases, tools, dashboards that provide important market and related information to support the Clean and Resilient Buildings portfolio
  • Manage and coordinate buildings-research and planning related projects and studies as assigned
  • Contribute to the development of interventions that leverage opportunities for projects, including supporting management of initiative implementation, monitoring initiative performance, and identifying recommendations to optimize initiatives for greater impact
  • Effectively oversee the work of consultants and contractors includingwriting statements of work, issuing contracts, budgeting, as well as providing feedback and review of all tasks and deliverables and approval of invoices for assigned contracts.
  • Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with vendors to ensure NYSERDA's interests are promoted and protected in support of the above, and in accordance with NYSERDA and New York State Procurement Policies.
  • Stay abreast of developments and trends related to building, energy, and climate policy as well as the broader building industry, and engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand market barriers and opportunities for building decarbonization.
  • Cultivate and manage productive working relationships within the Clean & Resilient Buildings team as well as other internal NYSERDA teams.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of available NYSERDA Programs to identify internal coordination opportunities
  • Contribute to a team culture of openness and collaboration
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • For Assistant Project Manager (Salary range: $70,720-$96764):
    • A Bachelor's degree and 3years of relevant experience
  • For Project Manager (Salary range: $78,333-$131298):
    • A Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience in building energy efficiency or a related field
  • Basic understanding of buildings market, buildings policies, buildings systems and technologies including high efficiency technologies like high performance envelopes, cold climate heat pumps, and their economic and environmental impacts
  • Ability and appetite to learn and assimilate new information and think holistically through complex problems with technical and non-technical components
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to set priorities, develop and execute on a workplan, balance research, analysis, stakeholder engagement with flexibility and pragmatism, and an action-bias to deliver activity in the market
  • Strong organizational, time management and planning skills to successfully handle multiple projects or other assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability with a flexible, proactive and collaborative style
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally with other teams
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills that resonate with audiences of different backgrounds; the ability to communicate persuasively, concisely and unambiguously in speech and writing
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Performs all job responsibilities with respect, fairness, consistency, and inclusion.
  • Ability to travel 5-10 % across New York State.
  • Experience in geospatial analysis, data analysis and data management a plus
Preferred Qualifications

  • For Assistant Project Manager:
    • Master’s degree and 1years of experience with data analysis, proficiency with Salesforce, Tableau or MS Project
  • For Project Manager:
    • Master’s degree and 4 years' experience, particularly in policy, public or business administration, architecture, real estate, urban planning, or related field.
  • Experience with geospatial analysis, data analysis and data management
