  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $144,018 to $158,718 + super

Our Strategic Policy, Science & Engagement team is seeking a Team Leader Spatial Insights to guide a team of spatial scientists delivering high‑quality analysis and mapping that support biodiversity programs and scientific services across DCCEEW. You’ll join a collaborative, technically skilled environment that values innovation, knowledge‑sharing and high professional standards.

In this role, you will lead and coordinate spatial science projects, ensuring outputs meet organisational objectives and scientific rigour. You will provide expert spatial and analytical advice, support the development and implementation of science projects, and drive strong knowledge‑brokering practices across the division. You will manage project plans, budgets and resources, maintain high standards in data and information management, and foster productive relationships with internal teams, external stakeholders, research organisations and clients.

About You

You are an experienced spatial science professional with a strong track record in guiding multidisciplinary teams and delivering high‑quality scientific outputs. You bring deep expertise in spatial sciences and advanced analytical methods and are skilled at translating complex technical information into accessible insights. You create collaborative, positive working environments, support staff capability development, and promote innovative and productive approaches to project delivery.

You excel at managing diverse projects, balancing competing priorities and overseeing field operations, including programming, WHS considerations and contractor management. You communicate effectively, build strong stakeholder relationships and work confidently across government, research institutions and industry partners. With strong planning, decision‑making and problem‑solving capability, you contribute to a culture of scientific excellence and continuous improvement.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrated experience in leading, developing and guiding science teams/programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in spatial sciences and advanced data analysis methods.
  • Highly developed and effective communication skills, information analysis and data presentation.
  • Ability to manage field operations including programming, Work Health and Safety and contractors.
