Position Overview
The Research Analyst will be responsible for researching, tracking, and maintaining intelligence on utility interconnection requirements, state and federal renewable energy incentives, and emerging market opportunities across the United States.
In this role, you will work closely with our sales, marketing, and business development teams to ensure internal stakeholders have accurate, verified, and actionable information needed to successfully origin, structure, and execute commercial solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects nationwide.
Primary Responsibilities
- Interconnection Research: Investigate and document utility interconnection rules, queue procedures, application processes, and technical requirements for commercial solar and BESS projects across regional energy markets (e.g., PJM, CAISO, ERCOT, NYISO, ISO-NE, and MISO).
- Incentive & Policy Tracking: Research state, utility, and federal financial incentives, tax credits (ITC/PTC), grants, and policy programs supporting solar and battery storage deployment.
- Database Management: Build, update, and maintain internal databases containing policy regulations, tariff structures, incentive eligibility parameters, and utility contacts.
- External Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate directly with utilities, state agencies, independent system operators (ISOs), Public Utility Commissions (PUCs), and program administrators via phone and email to clarify guidelines.
- Salesforce Data Verification: Audit and verify project entries created by the sales team in Salesforce using primary source regulatory documents and utility filings.
- Market Intelligence & Guidance: Provide regular market briefings and policy updates to sales, marketing, and leadership teams to highlight emerging project opportunities or regulatory changes.
- Cross-Functional Support: Assist marketing with customer-facing market insights and advise sales teams on regional interconnection timelines, incentive eligibility, and market-specific considerations.
Qualifications Required
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, Engineering, Public Policy, Marketing, or a related field.
- Research & Analytical Skills: Exceptional ability to locate, synthesize, and verify complex technical and market data using primary sources.
- Attention to Detail: High precision in verifying database records and reading dense policy or regulatory text.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical regulatory rules in plain language to sales and marketing colleagues.
- Document Comprehension: Ability to interpret technical energy documents, utility tariffs, interconnection manuals, and state program rules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience or internships in the renewable energy, cleantech, or utility sector.
- Basic understanding of commercial solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), or distributed energy resources (DERs).
- Hands-on experience using Salesforce or similar CRM platforms.
- Experience utilizing artificial intelligence/large language model tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to accelerate research workflows while rigorously validating outputs against primary sources.
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000 / year
Actual starting base salary within the range is determined based on factors including relevant internships or industry experience, technical/CRM skill set, education, and geographic location.
