Game Designer (Volunteer)
We Are Searching for an Experienced Game Designer to Shape the Future of Climate Education (Volunteer Role)
At Nordic Waves Group, we are building something ambitious:
Educational games that turn complex climate science into interactive, engaging, and empowering learning experiences, backed by a global advisory board of climate scientists.
To bring this vision to life, we are now looking for one of the most important roles in our team to date:
? Game Designer (Experienced)
Volunteer – Flexible hours – Remote
The Role
We are looking for a hands-on, senior Game Designer who can take our insights, research, early concepts, and thematic climate content - and transform them into:
- Clear storylines
- Short, targeted educational games
- Engaging missions, mechanics, and player flows
- Coherent design documentation ready for developers
You will be the connecting force between ideas → design → development, shaping how young learners experience (and remember!) climate knowledge.
You will be working closely with:
- A small team of programmers ready to execute your designs
- Commercial & go-to-market specialists
- Research assistants and climate-science advisors
- A leadership team guiding the strategic direction
What You’ll Do
✔ Turn complex sustainability topics into gameable concepts
✔ Create game loops, mission structures, player journeys, and mechanics
✔ Facilitate brainstorming and help structure ideas across teams
✔ Produce design documentation and guide developers through implementation
✔ Ensure that each game has clear learning outcomes, aligned with scientific content
✔ Help define the style, tone, and educational logic of our climate game library
This role is central; you will lay the creative and structural foundation for our educational games.
