Lead Engineer, ADAS Simulation

Overview:
We are seeking an ADAS Simulation Engineer who will be responsible for architecting, designing, and integrating the simulation pipeline for Nikola’s ADAS/AD Team. You will be championing the journey of simulation ecosystem creation to test execution and usage in ADAS development.

You will have full autonomy to strategize your roadmap, architect state of the art simulation pipelines, and deliver innovative solutions. Your internal customers will utilize this state-of-the-art platform to develop world-class ADAS products for the Nikola customers.
Responsibilities:
You will:
  • Design, develop, and maintain autonomous driving simulation platforms, including physics-based simulations and sensor simulations
  • Work closely with the autonomous driving algorithm team to understand their testing requirements and design simulation scenarios accordingly
  • Implement realistic virtual environments, including roads, traffic, weather conditions, and sensor models, to replicate real-world driving scenarios
  • Integrate autonomous driving software into the simulation platform and ensure seamless interaction between the two systems
  • Perform validation and verification of autonomous driving algorithms by conducting simulated tests and analyzing results
  • Collaborate with other teams, such as hardware, software, and machine learning engineers, to ensure the simulation platform meets their testing needs
  • Document and present simulation results and provide recommendations for improving autonomous driving systems
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in autonomous driving simulation technologies and best practices
Qualifications:
You have:
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required. A master's degree or PhD is preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in simulation engineering, preferably in the automotive or robotics industry
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Python
  • Strong understanding of physics, mathematics, and software development principles
  • Experience with autonomous or robotics simulation software such as Gazebo, V-REP, CARLA, CarMaker, or CarSim is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of autonomous driving technologies, including perception, localization, path planning, and control systems
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong attention to detail
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
