Solar Power Plant Operations Shift Supervisor

Location: Tonopah, NV
Schedule: Rotating 12-hour shifts (7 days on / 7 days off)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: $110,000 annually (negotiable, based on experience)

About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled Shift Supervisor to lead operations at our solar power plant in Tonopah, NV. In this role, you’ll be responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the plant during your assigned shifts. This includes supervising control room and auxiliary operators, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards, and keeping the plant running smoothly when senior management is offsite.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and supervise operators during your shift, providing direction, training, and support.
  • Oversee the startup, shutdown, and operation of turbines, generators, pumps, motors, and related equipment.
  • Monitor plant performance to ensure compliance with environmental, regulatory, and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams on equipment repairs and outages.
  • Enforce safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout and issuing permits for confined space, hot work, and other activities.
  • Conduct equipment inspections and ensure accurate logs, reports, and shift handovers.
  • Support employee performance through coaching, evaluations, and feedback.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong knowledge of power plant operations (turbines, boilers, generators, steam/electric systems).
  • Proven ability to supervise, lead, and train plant personnel.
  • Solid understanding of plant safety practices and environmental regulations.
  • Skilled at reading system diagrams, troubleshooting controls, and interpreting operational data.
  • Effective communicator with strong organizational and reporting skills.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 5+ years of experience in operating and maintaining an electric generating plant (100 MW or greater).
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation Engineering with at least 2 years of power plant operations experience (100 MW or greater).

Schedule & Requirements

  • Rotating 12-hour shifts (7 days on / 7 days off).
  • Must be available for on-call coverage and emergency response.
  • Essential personnel during emergencies, with ability to work extended shifts.
