About NEG8 Carbon

NEG8 Carbon specialises in the development of platform electrostatic technologies and solutions for climate change abatement and net-zero achievement for industry. The company was founded in 2014 as a spin-out from Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin, with a mission to develop cost effective, efficient Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology. In 2021, NEG8 intensified its commercialisation journey by relocating to Waterford, where the technology has been demonstrated in our pilot scale DAC system. We are in the process of scaling the technology and will demonstrate it at full scale in 2026.

The Role

NEG8 Carbon is developing exciting new adsorber technology, leveraging electrostatics to self-assemble solid particles sorbents on to heat exchanger surfaces. The resultant adsorber combines the benefits of packed bed and structured sorbent (e.g. monolith/laminate) adsorber systems.

The Electrostatics Specialist will join a highly qualified team who are passionate about tackling climate change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Model, analyse, and predict electrostatic behaviour in materials, components, and systems using analytical methods and simulation tools.
  • Design and validate experiments to measure charge accumulation, field strength, and material dielectric properties.
  • Prototype, test, and refine electrostatic systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D and manufacturing) to integrate electrostatic technology into product design and processes.
  • Troubleshoot electrostatic issues in prototypes, production environments, or deployed systems.
  • Create documentation, specifications, and technical reports that communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Train staff and serve as a subject-matter expert (SME) on electrostatics.
  • Stay current on emerging electrostatic and TENG technologies, materials, and industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in electrostatic theory, triboelectric effects, surface charge dynamics, and dielectric materials.
  • Hands-on experience working with electrostatic or triboelectric systems, including fabrication, characterisation, surface treatment, and performance modelling.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Why Join NEG8 Carbon?

  • Be part of a pioneering company tackling climate change with breakthrough electrostatic technology.
  • Work alongside a mission-driven and innovative team.
  • Opportunity to shape the commercial future of a high-impact company in a rapidly growing industry.
