Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Corporate Finance will play a leadership role in strengthening finance operations, strategy, client relationships and driving process excellence across the finance function.

The role will be responsible for a broad range of financial services activities in support of the accurate, timely and effective general ledger closing, regulatory compliance, revenue recognition, audit, and effective processing of payroll and benefits for all employees across Canada, through providing exceptional internal customer service.

The position provides an opportunity to lead in the design and implementation of end-to-end financial processes.

The Sr. Manager, Financial Services provides direct leadership to one (1) Payroll & Benefits Manager and indirect support of (1) Finance Coordinator, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage day to day general accounting operations, ensure responsibilities are effectively allocated, and identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve productivity.
  • Deliver insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision making, including evaluation of revenue performance and profitability, cost analysis by vendor, department, grant reporting and special projects.
  • Lead the design and implementation of new finance process to optimize financial and management reporting to support continuous business growth.
  • Conducts regular account analysis and reconciliation to identify trends and discrepancies in financial data.
  • Collaborates with other departments to gather necessary financial information for reporting.
  • Accountable for the oversight of payroll processing by the payroll & benefits team using ADP, ensuring compliance with all relevant statutory requirements across all Canadian provinces.
  • Provides ongoing leadership, coaching, performance management and development to the Payroll & Benefits Manager.
  • Provides leadership in the resolution of complex or non-routine payroll issues using established guidelines, research, and best practices as guidance.
  • Acts as a point of escalation or as needed directly responds to external parties (Service Canada, provincial H&S ministries, provincial WCB, etc.) requests for information as well.
  • government program requests, i.e. reporting re compliance with Quebec Training and Development legislation, HRDC student programs, EHT in Ontario etc.
  • Provides payroll reporting and analysis to the Director, Corporate Finance and other stakeholders including monitoring expenditures against budget and assisting with preparation of forecasts and three-year budgets.
  • Assists with the year-end financial audit as required.
  • Prepares semi-monthly GL report to process accruals and reconcile to accounting system.
  • Ensures finance, payroll process documentation and workflows are current and updated.
  • Develops and provides cross training and support to the Finance team to ensure service continuity. Provides support to Finance and Treasury team during staff absences.
  • Other duties/projects as assigned such as ERP implementation and pay cadence optimization.

Position Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Business Administration, Finance, Human Resources or equivalent.
  • Chartered Public Accountant (CPA) designation required, and audit experience is an asset.
  • Certification as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) is an asset.
  • 2 –3 years’ management experience in a similar role
  • 2+ years’ experience using ADP Workforce Advanced MS Office skills, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel (with particular focus on pivot tables, VLOOKUPs and advanced formulas) is required.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of end-to-end transaction process, the key process issues and strategic implications.
  • Strong knowledge of current and relevant HR and payroll legislation across Canada.
  • Strong people & relationship building skills; team player; able to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and solutions-oriented.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to work within tight, inflexible deadlines.
  • Bilingual - French/English (oral and written) strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge or relevant experience in the not-for-profit sector is an asset.
