Position Summary

The Nature Conservancy of Canada is planning to double its private revenue as part of its Strategic Plan. As the Prospect Research Analyst, you will directly impact NCC’s ability to meet its fundraising goals and the organization’s financial strength at large with your experience and expertise in fundraising and prospect development.

You will be part of a team of four working together toward ambitious prospect research goals to build robust prospect pipelines that generate significant revenue for the organization. You will work strategically with fundraisers across the country to provide data and information to target the right individuals and organizations for the right ask amount, for the right allocations, at the right time.

Job Responsibilities

Prospect Research

  • Proactively discover and evaluate prospective donors and existing donors with higher potential, their interests, relationships, inclination to give, and philanthropic capacity.
  • Prepare research profiles for fundraisers.
  • Contribute to the systems and procedures that meet, and exceed, the research and information needs of fundraising staff and senior management, in preparation for contacting, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects.

Prospect Management

  • Aid in the establishment of a strong prospect development pipeline that leads to relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance to fundraisers at all levels on portfolio management and work closely with them to ensure they are effectively moving prospects through the fundraising pipelines.
  • Provide guidance to fundraisers on prospect management and fundraising data entry best practices, guidelines, and policies.

Position Requirements

  • Post-secondary education with university level preferred. Certificate or training in development, charitable or fundraising related field is an asset.
  • One to three years relevant experience at a major not-for-profit.

Skills and Abilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of and experience in prospect research using a variety of online information sources. Proven ability to generate value-added and relevant research.
  • Knowledge about the range of resources available to prospect researchers and demonstrated ability to apply those resources in an organized and purposeful manner.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize data from a wide variety of sources and present the resulting information in a clear and concise summary.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in prospect management in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret fundraising data to provide strategic prospect management advice to fundraisers.
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment, and cope with competing and changing demands for resources and priorities; strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines, triage workload appropriately, and be flexible when necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to collaborate with members of the Prospect Strategy team as well as assigned fundraising teams.
  • Tact in handling sensitive and confidential information appropriately and with discretion; follow and promote APRA’s ethical guidelines for the collection and use of information.
  • Dedication to excellent client service by meeting established service levels.
  • Strong written/oral communication and presentation skills, with capacity to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be able to write research documents with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Strong computer skills with extensive knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate in French is an asset.

Hiring Process

We anticipate the process to include a 30-minute phone interview followed by a 1-hour panel interview.
