Manager, Conservation Planning and Stewardship

Position Summary
Reporting to the Director, Conservation Planning and Stewardship, the Manager, Conservation Planning and Stewardship is a permanent position and will oversee a program coordinator. The incumbent will provide leadership and support to the Ontario Region team in the delivery of NCC’s conservation direction. This position is responsible for providing centralized operational and technical support related to conservation planning and land stewardship within Ontario, and strategic oversight and management of programming related to interns, visitor use management and health and safety, among other duties as assigned. This role provides guidance, resources and solutions to existing and emerging conservation program areas. The Manager will work closely with Ontario Region’s senior management and conservation staff, collaborate with colleagues across business units, and liaise with external partners, funders and community groups. The role will increase capacity within and beyond NCC to accelerate conservation in Ontario.
Position Requirements
- University degree, college diploma or equivalent in biology, ecology, resource management or related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in conservation, land management or related field.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex projects is essential.
- A superior working knowledge of central Ontario’s landscapes, communities, and conservation issues
- Flexibility, reliability, self-motivation, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Leadership and managerial skills to effectively support junior conservation staff
- High level of literacy (spoken and written), and ability to communicate to broad audiences to gain support
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in conservation planning, land stewardship and habitat restoration, visitor use management and delivering health and safety programs that comply with corporate and provincial requirements.
- Excellent project management skills, including attention to detail, multi-tasking, problem solving, planning and budgeting.
- Excellent leadership and conflict resolution skills; ability to make decisions, and exercise sound judgment.
- The incumbent will need to be able to juggle many diverse and competing interests to provide guidance and recommend solutions to a large stewardship team across Ontario.
- Proficient with MC Office applications (Outlook, Teams, Sharepoint, Word, Excel etc.) and experience navigating databases.
- The ability to pivot and balance priorities to achieve project outcomes amongst other duties as assigned.
